I work as a tennis coach, so most of my time is spent out on court, talking to people face-to-face. Confidence kind of comes with the job, whether you like it or not. Over the last couple of years, though, I started noticing my hairline creeping back a bit, as in the photo above, not the end of the world, I know, but it did start to get in my head more than I expected.<\/p>\n

Eventually, I decided to actually do something about it and booked a consultation with Dr Mark Tam on Harley Street in London. I\u2019d heard the name before and knew people travel from all over for it, so I thought, why not at least see what Dr Tam had to say?<\/p>\n

From the first appointment, it all felt pretty straightforward. No sales pitch, no overpromising, just a normal conversation about what was going on and what could realistically be done. That was probably the biggest thing for me. It didn\u2019t feel like I was being pushed into anything.<\/p>\n

Dr Tam explained the whole process in a way that actually made sense. Not overly technical, just clear, what happens, how long it takes, what to expect afterwards. And yeah, they were very upfront about the fact that this isn\u2019t some instant fix. If you\u2019re expecting to walk out with perfect hair overnight\u2026 you\u2019re probably dreaming (or buying a wig, to be honest).<\/p>\n

One thing I appreciated was how much they emphasised patience. I was told early on that the transplanted hairs would shed in the first few weeks, so when that happened, I didn\u2019t panic. Apparently, the real growth doesn\u2019t properly kick in until around 3\u20134 months, and full results can take up to a year. Sounds like a long time, but at least I knew what I was signing up for.<\/p>\n

The procedure itself was\u2026 honestly, smoother than I expected. \u00a0I went in a bit nervous, not going to lie, but the whole environment was calm and professional, which helped settle me pretty quickly. It started with an early morning session, where the treatment area was marked out, and the hair follicles to be removed were identified. To put it simply, those follicles were then carefully placed into the receding hairline. The whole process took several hours, but we did get a good break in the middle for a burger and fries, which definitely helped. \u00a0A few hours later, it was all done, and I was sent home with aftercare instructions, simple enough to follow, no confusion.<\/p>\n

Now I\u2019m about six weeks in, and I\u2019m very much in that awkward middle stage. The hairs have shed (as promised), and there\u2019s no new growth yet, but again, I knew this was coming. It\u2019s a bit of a waiting game now. The upside is, it doesn\u2019t actually look weird or obvious, which I was slightly worried about.<\/p>\n

Another thing that\u2019s been good is the follow-up. They don\u2019t just send you on your way and forget about you; there are check-ins planned over the next year to keep an eye on things. It makes it feel more like an ongoing process rather than a one-off thing.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s still early, so I can\u2019t say much about results yet, but overall I feel good about the decision. Just taking action on something that was bothering me has made a difference mentally, if nothing else.<\/p>\n

Six weeks down\u2026 a fair bit to go. I\u2019ll keep an eye on how it develops; hopefully, the interesting part starts soon.<\/p>\n
