It is two centuries since the birth of one of Champagne\u2019s most visionary men. 2022 marks exactly two hundred years since Charles Heidsieck Champagne\u2019s enigmatic founder Charles-Camille Heidsieck was born.<\/p>\n

Charles Heidsieck Champagne is observing this special anniversary with a series of celebrations, including the release of a specially designed \u2018Collector\u2019s Edition\u2019 bottle of Charles Heidsieck Brut R\u00e9serve.<\/p>\n

The champagne within is the same award-winning blend of vintage base wines and aged reserve wines, and the striking bottle, designed to reference the stories of Charles-Camille\u2019s remarkable life, makes it ideal for Christmas gifting and will be available at key specialist retailers over the festive period.<\/p>\n

French artist Catherine Gran was entrusted with the artistic creation of the \u2018Collector\u2019s Edition\u2019 bottle. She was inspired by the idea of creating a \u2018temple\u2019 to Charles Heidsieck, referencing a deeply rooted history and the House\u2019s call to look into the sky to the future.<\/p>\n

Charles-Camille Heidsieck was known all over Paris, and later in American high society, for his charming character and his impeccable dress sense, modelled after the legendary Beau Brummell, the arbiter of fine fashion of the day. Unafraid to challenge the status quo, he became the very first founder of a Champagne House to travel to America. His incredible spirit and bold business sense allowed him to create the market for Champagne in America. Confident in his abilities, he made personal friends with the great and the good and used his positive press to open and supply new markets throughout the United States.<\/p>\n

Towards the end of his life, he invested in a series of 2000-year-old Gallo-Roman cray\u00e8res (chalk cellars) dug under Reims. This remarkable vision, alongside the purchase of leading vineyards across the region, has ensured the incredible success of Charles Heidsieck Champagne to this day. Recent Chef de Caves have continued to blaze a trail with the house\u2019s Brut R\u00e9serve, one of the most popular and desired Champagne cuv\u00e9es with its high proportion of reserve wines and extended lees ageing. Charles Heidsieck Champagne is, to this day, the most successful single wine brand in the history of the International Wine Challenge, winning 16 times. No other House has won more than twice.<\/p>\n

Brut R\u00e9serve Collector Edition<\/h2>\n

The Collector\u2019s Edition Brut R\u00e9serve is blended from more than 120 separately vinified wines from 60 of Champagne\u2019s best villages. Up to 50% of these are reserve wines, held back and aged in Charles Heidsieck\u2019s chalk cellars for up to 20 years, adding to the incredible generosity and complexity of this remarkable non-vintage cuv\u00e9e. Charles Heidsieck blends from 40% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay and 20% Meunier for the Brut R\u00e9serve.<\/p>\n

Tasting Notes<\/h3>\n

The Brut R\u00e9serve is a radiant pale gold colour with fine, persistent bubbles. The nose is characterised by complex pastry aromas, with an opulent combination of ripe apricot, mango, greengages, dried fruits, pistachio and almond. The palate begins with a silky-smooth sensation, developing into ripe fleshy apricot, melon and enticing plum pastry notes and delicate spice. There is perfect balance of freshness and generosity.<\/p>\n

Champagne Charles Heidsieck is one of the most respected Champagne houses, based in Reims, France. Founded in 1851, Champagne Charles Heidsieck is among the few prestige brands carrying the Grandes Marques distinction, and the first producer to bring Champagne to the United States. Acclaimed internationally, Champagne Charles Heidsieck has been named Sparkling Winemaker of the Year thirteen times at the International Wine Challenge (IWC) and awarded with numerous Grand Or medals, Best in Show, Trophies and Gold medals during its illustrious history. Its purchase in 2011 by Christofer Descours and the EPI group enabled Charles Heidsieck to quickly bounce back with a new and international ambition.<\/p>\n
