Marriott Hotels announces the opening of two distinctive properties in the scenic Herdade dos Salgados region: Algarve Marriott Salgados Golf Resort & Conference Centre and Marriott Residences Salgados Resort, Algarve. Set against the backdrop of Portugal’s southern coast, these accommodations blend contemporary design with authentic local character while upholding Marriott Hotels legacy of attentive hospitality.

The resorts represent a significant addition to Marriott International’s portfolio in Portugal, catering to travellers who value reliability, consistency, and opportunities for enriching experiences in one of Europe’s most captivating coastal destinations. The property is managed by Highgate, a leading global real estate investment and hospitality management company with a strong presence in Portugal, leveraging deep market insight and extensive experience across key European markets.

“The essence of hospitality lies in the details,” notes Pedro Neto, General Manager of Algarve Marriott Salgados Golf Resort & Conference Centre. “Our approach centres on understanding what matters to each guest and creating moments that resonate well beyond their stay with us.”

Modern Design and Premium Accommodations

Algarve Marriott Salgados Golf Resort & Conference Centre features 228 thoughtfully appointed guest rooms and suites designed with Marriott Hotels’ signature aesthetic that balances contemporary elegance with local influences. The interior design incorporates natural materials, soothing colour palettes inspired by the Algarve coastline, and subtle Portuguese design elements that create a sense of place while maintaining the modern, timeless quality that Marriott guests expect.

At the heart of the property is Marriott Hotels’ signature Greatroom – an innovative, open-concept space that transforms throughout the day to meet guests’ evolving needs. The Greatroom serves as a versatile hub for socialising, working, dining, and relaxing, featuring flexible seating arrangements, integrated technology, and thoughtful lighting design that creates distinct zones while maintaining a sense of openness and connection.

“The Greatroom concept reflects our understanding of how today’s travellers move through their day,” explains Neto. “It’s a space that adapts to their needs rather than asking them to adapt to fixed environments. Whether hosting an impromptu meeting, enjoying a cocktail, or simply taking in the surroundings, guests find the Greatroom responds intuitively to what they want.”

Resort Facilities: Opportunities for Enriching Experiences

The property offers four outdoor pools – two designed for adults and two for children – set within thoughtfully landscaped gardens that showcase native plantings. The culinary programme spans four distinct dining venues that invite guests to explore both local and global flavours:

• KAN.JO: A fine dining restaurant where creativity meets tradition, in a truly vibrant celebration of Asian cuisine. Inspired by the Japanese concept of emotion, the restaurant offers a dynamic dining experience, featuring bold flavours and refined technique. In a sophisticated and contemporary setting, each dish is an artistic expression, built on a “blank canvas” of fresh ingredients and daring combinations. KAN.JO is more than a meal; it’s a journey of taste, excellence, and discovery.

• In Season: A relaxed buffet restaurant where fresh flavours and the rhythm of nature come together for an unforgettable entertainment experience. Inspired by the beauty of each season, the menu celebrates the finest locally sourced ingredients and every dish tells a story of freshness, sustainability, and bold, vibrant tastes that awaken the senses.

• Amara: Amara by the pool is a dreamlike retreat offering a refined poolside dining experience. Inspired by the Venetian Ciccheti tradition, guests can enjoy small, flavorful plates made to share or savour alone, crafted with the finest seasonal ingredients. As the night falls, AMARA Terrazza transforms into an elegant Italian escape, inspired by the charm of the Italian Riviera, and the menu invites you to indulge in multiple small plates paired with an exceptional selection of Portuguese and signature wines in a true celebration of flavours, seasons and convivial dining.

• Aperitivo 18: With a carefully curated selection of speciality coffees, Mediterranean-inspired meals, artisanal pastries, Portuguese wine, craft beers and signature cocktails, this sophisticated Greatroom bar is the perfect space to gather, indulge and celebrate – any time of the day.

Beyond the resort grounds, guests have immediate access to enriching cultural and recreational experiences that showcase the authentic Algarve. The property is steps away from the iconic Praia dos Salgados beach and the ecologically significant Lagoa dos Salgados Nature Reserve, where guided birdwatching tours offer insights into the region’s biodiversity. The adjacent championship golf course provides both challenging play and stunning coastal views for golf enthusiasts of all levels.

“Our guests seek experiences that blend relaxation with discovery,” notes Neto. “Whether it’s learning about local winemaking traditions through curated tastings, exploring coastal pathways with our naturalist guides, or simply connecting with the rhythm of Portuguese coastal life, we’ve created pathways to authentic engagement with this remarkable region.”

State-of-the-Art Conference Centre

The property’s conference centre represents a significant advancement for business hospitality in the Algarve region, offering more than 9000 square metres of versatile meeting and event space. The facility includes:

• An auditorium with a capacity to seat 1596 people
• A main ballroom with capacity for up to 800 delegates in theatre-style seating, divisible into three separate spaces
• Six additional meeting rooms ranging from 50 to 150 square metres
• A dedicated business centre with administrative support services
• Outdoor event spaces, including terraces and gardens that can accommodate up to 1,000 guests for receptions

All meeting spaces feature state-of-the-art audiovisual technology, including integrated 4K projection systems, professional sound equipment, and high-density Wi-Fi capable of supporting up to 1,000 simultaneous connections.

“The conference facilities were designed to meet the evolving needs of today’s business events,” explains Neto. “From intimate strategy sessions to large-scale international conferences, our spaces adapt seamlessly while maintaining an atmosphere of understated elegance. The technology infrastructure ensures seamless presentations, hybrid meeting capabilities, and robust connectivity that business travellers expect from Marriott properties worldwide”.

Marriott Residences Salgados Resort Algarve: Comfort with Premium Service

Nearby, Marriott Residences Salgados Resort, Algarve, provides 192 spacious accommodations ranging from one to three bedrooms. Each residence features generous balconies, comfortable living areas, and well-appointed kitchens ideal for extended stays. The property includes ten outdoor pools, two distinctive restaurants, including the charming Goa Café, a welcoming bar, and a curated programme of seasonal activities.

The design aesthetic at the Residences balances contemporary comfort with thoughtful nods to Portuguese architectural traditions. Clean lines, natural materials, and a neutral palette create serene environments that serve as perfect canvases for guests to create their own experiences, while subtle design elements – including locally-sourced textiles and curated artwork – maintain a sense of authentic place.

“We’ve designed these residences to offer both autonomy and service,” says Joana Pinteus, General Manager of Marriott Residences Salgados Resort, Algarve. “We want each guest to feel they have found their place in the Algarve — a space to create meaningful and unforgettable memories, whether they’re here for business or leisure.”

Additional amenities include tennis courts, mini-golf, volleyball and football facilities, a kids club for children aged 3 to 12, and both indoor and outdoor fitness areas. The property also facilitates access to the beach, water sports, sailing excursions, and guided nature experiences at the neighbouring Lagoa dos Salgados.

Wellness Hub Salgados: Integration of Wellbeing

Shared between the properties, the Wellness Hub Salgados offers a comprehensive approach to wellbeing in a true haven of Wellness for body, mind and spirit. From locally sourced and inspired therapies to exquisite aromatherapy and recovery services, the Wellness Hub Salgados allows you to explore an amazing range of wellness options that target physical and mental wellbeing.

The facility includes a heated indoor pool with therapeutic water jets and chromotherapy, a jacuzzi, a sauna, a steam room, contrast showers, a professional-grade LifeFitness gym, a recovery room powered by Hyperice, a golf recovery lounge with compression and percussion therapies, and a make-up studio for events. Treatment rooms provide spaces for personalised wellness programmes that blend traditional techniques with contemporary approaches.

“Our wellness philosophy acknowledges that meaningful experiences often begin with personal renewal,” notes Neto. “We’ve created environments where technology enhances rather than intrudes, allowing guests to connect with themselves and their surroundings in ways that feel both novel and necessary.”

Positioned between the Atlantic Ocean and the protected landscapes of the Salgados Lagoon, these new properties strengthen Marriott’s presence in Portugal while establishing a refined standard for both leisure and business hospitality in the Algarve. The developments reflect an understanding that contemporary travellers seek authentic connections to destinations while expecting thoughtful, anticipatory service that honours their individual preferences.

A new era of wellness in London: Wellverse fitness ecosystem https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/a-new-era-of-wellness-in-london-wellverse-fitness-ecosystem/ Sat, 25 Apr 2026 07:29:55 +0000 https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/?p=110664 A new benchmark in London’s wellness landscape is set to launch on 20 April 2026 with the arrival of Wellverse: a first-of-its-kind, fully integrated wellness ecosystem designed to meet every version of you, every day.

Bringing together some of London’s leading fitness brands – Frame, FLOW and ROWBOTS – spanning high-energy, expressive training, reformer Pilates and yoga, and performance-driven strength, Wellverse unites the capital’s most dynamic fitness concepts under one seamless booking platform.

Accessible via a new website and app, the Wellverse Membership unlocks unlimited access across the seven London locations.

A Complete Wellness Ecosystem

Wellverse has been built to remove friction from the fitness experience, offering members the freedom to move between disciplines, locations and moods – all under one membership, and across over 50 class types.

At the heart of Wellverse is a portfolio of distinct brands, each offering its own approach to movement:

FLOW delivers a considered, low-impact yet results-driven programme, centred on infrared mat Pilates and yoga, reformer Pilates, dynamic and slow flow yoga, barre, and strength and sculpt classes – designed to build strength, improve mobility and support long-term wellbeing.

ROWBOTS takes a more performance-led approach, built around its signature rowing classes – 50-minute classes that combine the rower and floor-based training in structured intervals designed to build strength, focus, and momentum – alongside dedicated strength training sessions. Underpinned by its ‘Machine Mindset’, the concept places equal emphasis on physical performance and mental conditioning, stripping movement back to its most powerful and efficient form.

Frame, known for its energy and creativity, offers a diverse and expressive schedule spanning dance cardio, rebounding, music video classes, strength training, deep release reformer, hip-opening flows, mandala flow yoga, candlelit yin yoga, sound baths and anxiety release yoga, delivering everything from high-intensity workouts to restorative, feel-good movement.

Completing the ecosystem, MUMHOOD at Frame offers dedicated pre- and postnatal fitness, including Pilates, yoga and reformer, ensuring movement evolves with every stage of life – because at Wellverse, wellness doesn’t pause for motherhood.

The Membership

The Wellverse Membership is priced from £120 to £225 per month, offering up to 31 classes across all studios and concepts within the Wellverse ecosystem. Designed with flexibility in mind, memberships operate on a one-month rolling basis with no joining fees, allowing members to cancel with 30 days’ notice ahead of their next billing cycle. For those looking to commit longer-term, an annual option is also available, offering 12 months for the price of 10 when purchasing the full year upfront.

To mark the launch, Wellverse will also introduce a two-week “Enter the Wellverse” taster pass priced at £75, offering up to 14 classes across the ecosystem.

ROWBOTS Residency: A New Chapter in Hybrid Training

Launching in Summer 2026, after the membership debut, ROWBOTS will introduce their first-ever residency at Frame King’s Cross. The residency will feature a dedicated ROWBOTS class programme, bringing its signature strength-led, performance-focused training to a wider audience.

A New Way to Experience Wellness

Wellverse is more than a membership – it is a fully connected approach to movement, designed around the realities of modern life. Whether seeking intensity, recovery, community or calm, members can move fluidly between disciplines without restriction. This is not just fitness. It’s an ecosystem built around how people really live, train and feel.

Greg Zimmerman, Co-Founder, Wellverse, comments:
“Wellverse was created to solve a problem we kept coming back to – fitness in London is incredible, but it’s fragmented. People are forced to choose between disciplines, locations or memberships, when in reality, they want variety and flexibility. Wellverse removes that friction entirely, giving people one place to access everything, and the freedom to move however they want, whenever they want, across best-in-class brands.”

Sam Green, Co-Founder, Wellverse, adds:

“What’s been missing from the industry is a system that reflects real behaviour. People don’t train the same way every day – sometimes you want intensity, sometimes recovery, sometimes something completely new. Wellverse is designed around that mindset, bringing different modalities, communities, and experiences into one ecosystem so people can build a routine that is both sustainable and adaptable over time.”

Enter The Wellverse

Locations include: Frame (Victoria, Shoreditch, Angel, King’s Cross, Hammersmith), FLOW (Tottenham Street), ROWBOTS (Fitzrovia)

Membership pricing:
Wellverse offers four membership tiers: 6 classes (£120), 8 classes

(£152), 12 classes (£195) and 31 classes (£225) per month – each

The Wellbeing Generation: Why People Are Going Sober in the UK https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/the-wellbeing-generation-why-people-are-going-sober-in-the-uk/ Thu, 12 Feb 2026 17:08:32 +0000 https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/the-wellbeing-generation-why-people-are-going-sober-in-the-uk/ It’s no secret that the rest of the world sees the UK as a nation with a drink and drug problem.

While this stereotype may have had some basis in truth during bygone decades, today it holds far less water — and the data is beginning to back that up.

The number of people embracing sober living is rising, and while it began as a youth-led movement, there’s growing evidence that it now spans generations. So what’s driving this trend, and what forces are helping to catalyse it?

Young, Smart, and Sober

Almost a third of Gen Z Brits are non-drinkers. For Baby Boomers, that proportion sits at around 15%.

Millennials and Gen X are also increasingly sober-curious compared to their older counterparts. A few key factors are driving this shift away from alcohol. First, there’s economic pressure. Young people in particular are contending with the reality of sustained inflation and its knock-on effects on the cost of living, leaving them with less disposable income. Coupled with the fact that the average pint now costs around £5 — and closer to £7 in London — the straightforward economics of a booze-fuelled night out simply don’t add up for many.

Then there’s a changing appetite for social activities. Even as recently as the mid-2000s, socialising in person — typically at the pub or a club — was the default. Today, the rise of social media, video streaming and other digital forms of connection and entertainment make it possible to maintain a full, friend-focused social life in spaces where drink and drugs are simply not part of the equation.

Lastly, there’s the gradual but steady growth of health and fitness as a cultural priority across every generation.

Campaigns like Dry January have helped embed the message that reassessing our relationship with alcohol is worthwhile — not just physically, but socially and financially too.

The Overlooked Issues

While alcohol may have fallen out of favour with many in the UK, other controlled substances continue to find new audiences.

Most notable in recent years is the explosion in ketamine’s popularity. ONS figures show that use among the under-25s more than doubled over the past decade — a rise that has prompted campaigners to call for it to be reclassified into the more serious Class A category, and has driven a significant increase in services helping people detox from ketamine as hospital admissions linked to the substance continue to climb.

It could even be argued that the apparent rise in sober living is partly a misreading of the data. Just as ecstasy’s rise to prominence in the 1990s caused alcohol sales at clubs to collapse, we may be witnessing ketamine’s growing popularity pushing more people away from alcohol as their substance of choice — rather than toward sobriety itself.

What Next for the Wellbeing Generation?

Whether the increased interest in sober living represents a lasting cultural shift or a passing moment in a longer cycle remains to be seen. History suggests that these trends tend to ebb and flow, and it’s unlikely that the UK will abandon drink and drugs en masse any time soon.

What does seem clear, however, is that the conversation around alcohol, wellbeing, and conscious living has fundamentally changed. More people are asking questions about why they drink, not just how much — and that shift in mindset may prove more durable than any single trend. Watch the data over the next few years, and a clearer picture will emerge.

The Golf Company Africa Golf in Shaping Mauritius https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/the-golf-company-africa-golf-in-shaping-mauritius/ Thu, 12 Feb 2026 09:54:25 +0000 https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/the-golf-company-africa-shaping-mauritius-golf-from-the-ground-up/ Mauritius has earned its reputation as one of the Indian Ocean’s premier golf destinations.

Behind several of the island’s most respected courses sits a management company deeply involved in how the game is delivered, experienced and evolved.

The Golf Company Africa manages and operates some of Mauritius’ most highly regarded golf facilities: Avalon Golf Estate, Le Château Golf Course, La Réserve Golf Links and Azuri The Nine. In the latest Top 100 courses rankings, Mauritian rankings serve as a strong validation of The Golf Company’s management capability.

La Réserve Golf Links and Avalon Golf Estate occupy rankings one and two, respectively, with Le Château sitting in fifth position. Azuri the Nine is a par 3 course, and while this does not fit into the Top100 ranking criteria, it has won the World’s Best Par 3 course twice (2023 and 2025). Each is internationally recognised, each is distinct in character, and each benefits from a management model that extends well beyond day-to-day operations.

A defining feature across the portfolio is championship pedigree. Both Le Château Golf Course and La Réserve Golf Links have hosted the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open, a DP World Tour event, firmly establishing their credentials on the global stage.

Avalon Golf Estate

Set high in the south-central uplands of Mauritius’ Bois Chéri area, Avalon is a modern “mountain/inland” layout known for cooler air, big elevation swings, and wide open views that can stretch from the Grand Bassin region out toward the coast on clear days. It’s an 18-hole championship course designed by Peter Matkovich, with a reputation for being scenic and playable while still asking for smart club selection because of wind and altitude.

10 Facts About Avalon Golf Estate

• 18-hole championship golf course.
• Par 72.
• Designed by Peter Matkovich.
• Opened in 2015.
• Located in the Bois Chéri region of Mauritius.
• +- 500m above sea level (the highest place to play golf on the island).
• Surrounded by tea plantations/tea-growing fields.
• Only golf course on the island with bent grass greens.
• Practice facilities include a driving range plus multiple short-game greens (putting/chipping/pitching) and a practice bunker.

La Réserve Golf Links – “Pure Golfing Drama”

La Réserve Golf Links brings authentic links golf to the Indian Ocean. Exposed, dramatic and shaped naturally into the ground contours, it demands creativity and control. Hosting a DP World Tour event so soon after opening was a clear statement of its competitive credentials.

La Réserve certainly delivers “pure golfing drama”. The 2025 AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open saw a play-off between Ryan Gerard and Jayden Schaper, which not only delivered an exhilarating play-off, but also an incredible storyline. Gerard required a 4th-place finish or better to secure his spot in the 2026 U.S Masters. The 10,000-mile round trip proved to be well worth the jet lag as he stamped his ticket into the field.

Key Facts About La Réserve Golf Links

• 18 holes.
• Par 72.
• Co-designed by Peter Matkovich and Louis Oosthuizen.
• Positioned as the first “contemporary links” course in the Indian Ocean.
• Officially opened for play in November 2023 (ahead of the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open).
• Has panoramic ocean views.
• Located alongside a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
• Hosted the DP World Tour Mauritius Open (2023 and 2025).
• Positioned by Heritage as part of its “two-course” destination in Bel Ombre.

Le Château Golf Course

In the lush Bel Ombre estate, Le Château is a classic, parkland-style championship test routed around a 19th-century château, with mature trees and plenty of water in play. It’s widely positioned as a “must-play” Mauritius course, pairing generous-looking corridors with hazards that punish the wrong angles, especially as the wind shifts off the nearby coast and valley lines.

A past DP World Tour venue, the course is capable of hosting elite competition without sacrificing everyday enjoyment, which makes it a popular choice for the travelling golfer.

Key Facts About Le Château Golf Course

• Part of Heritage Golf Club.
• 18-hole championship course.
• Par 72.
• Opened in 2004.
• Designed by Peter Matkovich.
• Set in the landscaped grounds of an elegant 19th-century Château.
• Located at Bel Ombre (south/south-west Mauritius).
• Routed between the Indian Ocean side and the Black River Gorges area/topography.
• Described as “crafted with nature”, taking into consideration the lakes/streams and grand centenary trees as key features.

Azuri The Nine

Azuri The Nine completes the portfolio with a short-format golf experience that has achieved global recognition. Purpose-built as a par-3 course, it delivers exceptional conditioning and design quality in a compact, accessible format.

Its success lies in offering an engaging golf experience without the time commitment of a full round, making it equally appealing to beginners, families and serious golfers seeking a refined yet relaxed way to play.

Key Facts About Azuri The Nine

• 9-hole par-3 course.
• Located at Azuri Ocean & Golf Village in Roches Noires (northeast Mauritius).
• Designed by IMG.
• The course can be played in about 90 minutes.
• Holes range roughly from 119 to 198 yards.
• Three tee options are available to play, and there are 2 flags per green, allowing you to play 18 holes with different yardages.
• A first-of-its-kind on the Island and a popular choice for beginners.

Future Developments

In April, The Golf Company Africa will open “The Range”, a new-generation golf facility designed to broaden the game’s appeal. The concept blends technology-driven practice, a high-quality short-game area, an 18-hole putt-putt course, retail and PGA-qualified coaching, creating a venue that appeals equally to golfers and non-golfers.

Avalon Golf Estate Mauritius: 18 Holes and Endless Memories https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/avalon-golf-estate-mauritius-nine-holes-and-endless-memories/ Mon, 09 Feb 2026 09:51:18 +0000 https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/avalon-golf-estate-mauritius-nine-holes-and-endless-memories/ If you’re looking for the moment when a holiday quietly turns into something memorable, our day at the renowned championship Avalon Golf Estate in Mauritius was exactly that.

Mauritius has earned its reputation as a go-to destination for golf lovers, with an impressive collection of world-class courses spread across the island. Even in such impressive company, Avalon Golf Estate holds its own firmly at the top. From the first tee to the final putt, this course delivered an experience that felt thoughtful, polished, and genuinely special.

We opted for the full 18 holes — it was extremely hot, so thank goodness for the buggy, which turned out to be the perfect way to fully appreciate the course while still leaving us energised rather than exhausted. Avalon Golf Estate is hilly, challenging, and beautifully designed, demanding just the right balance. It’s simply great golf, executed at a very high level.

The scenery deserves its own paragraph. Set inland, surrounded by rolling hills and lush greenery, Avalon Golf Estate offers a completely different experience from the coastal courses Mauritius is famous for. The views are wide open yet calming, with immaculate fairways cutting through the landscape. It’s the kind of place where you catch yourself pausing mid-round — not to look for your ball, but simply to take it all in.

As sports editor for Luxuria Lifestyle International, I’m not easily impressed. Yet hole after hole, Avalon Golf Estate won me over — and I was playing alongside my dad, which made it all the more special. The layout is challenging but fair, rewarding smart play and offering plenty of variety to keep all levels of golfers engaged. By the end of the round, we were already discussing which holes we’d most like to play again.

A special mention has to go to the golf buggies, which were genuinely luxurious. On a hilly course like Avalon Golf Estate, a comfortable buggy makes all the difference — and these were top-tier, smooth, spacious, and perfect for cruising between holes in the warm Mauritian summer sun.

After golf, we headed to lunch in the aptly named Magic Spoon, and once again, Avalon Golf Estate delivered. The food was delicious, relaxed, and exactly what you want after a morning on the course — good ingredients, well prepared, and served overlooking the fairways.

Hospitality truly sums up Avalon Golf Estate. From arrival to departure, the staff were warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. There’s a difference between professional service and heartfelt hospitality, and Avalon Golf Estate clearly understands it.

To round off the day, we indulged in a massage at Avalon Golf Estate’s partner wellness spa, The Bodhi Meditation Retreat, which was the perfect end to an already outstanding experience. After navigating those rolling fairways, the spa was pure bliss and beautifully run.

With so many outstanding golf courses on Mauritius, it takes something truly special to stand out. Avalon Golf Estate manages it effortlessly. Second to none in design, setting, and service, it’s a destination where golf, nature, and hospitality come together in perfect unison.

Whether you’re a serious golfer, a travelling sports journalist, or simply someone who loves discovering new places, Avalon Golf Estate is a must-visit. For us, it wasn’t just a great round of golf — it was a perfect day, start to finish.

For further information or to arrange a visit, email Ben Hiddlestone, General Manager, Avalon Golf Estate.

In the Ring at Tattersalls: Emma Blunt Looks at a Tradition Still in Motion https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/in-the-ring-at-tattersalls-emma-blunt-looks-at-a-tradition-still-in-motion/ Tue, 18 Nov 2025 09:17:14 +0000 https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/in-the-ring-at-tattersalls-emma-blunt-looks-at-a-tradition-still-in-motion/ It begins, as so many great British traditions do, with a toast.

Inside the timeless Jockey Club Rooms in Newmarket, champagne glasses catch the candlelight as conversation fills the air beneath portraits of racing’s greats. Along one wall, the names of members dating back to 1819 remind you that few institutions embody heritage quite like this one.

This is the eve of Tattersalls Book 1: the world’s most prestigious yearling sale. Founded in 1766, it remains Europe’s leading bloodstock auctioneer and the beating heart of the British racing industry. It’s where heritage, horsemanship, and ambition meet in an arena of precision and possibility — horses parading in the ring, handlers focused, buyers poised, and conversations turning to pedigrees, prices, and potential.

Over dinner, Nick Patton, Managing Director of Jockey Club Estates, speaks with quiet pride about the town that has defined the sport for centuries. He oversees the management of training facilities across Newmarket, Lambourn, and Epsom — the shared gallops and land that underpin Britain’s racing centres. “Nothing pleases me more than seeing the next generation of racehorse trainers find success,” he says — a sentiment that captures Tattersalls’ enduring relevance: a world steeped in history, yet alive with ambition.

The Jockey Club Rooms have long been the meeting point of the sport’s great minds — once a private coffee house where bets were struck and races began on the streets outside. Today, they stand as a reminder that Newmarket’s identity is inseparable from its racing roots. As glasses are raised, the room feels suspended in a shared pause — a moment of stillness before the sale, before hopes are tested in the ring.

Morning on the Gallops

At first light, Newmarket’s heath lies quiet under a pale sky. Trainer George Scott, who began his career in 2015 and recently celebrated his first Group 1 victory with Caballo De Mar in the Prix du Cadran at Paris Longchamp, starts his day before sunrise — horses warming up in the ring, stable lights cutting through the soft mist.

George walks the gallops with steady focus. He listens more than he speaks. “We’re listening to the breathing,” he says as two thoroughbreds stride past. “When they’re working together, you hear how they compete — how they recover.”

His training blends instinct with modern understanding. In his 85-horse yard, tradition sits comfortably alongside technology — heart-rate monitors, stride analysis, and data used not to replace intuition, but to deepen it. “It’s not about control,” he says. “It’s about connection.”

That connection extends to his people as much as his horses. George speaks of his team with quiet pride — a mix of youth and experience bound by the same early starts and deep affection for their animals. For him, training is as much about teaching as it is about winning. If those who pass through his yard leave understanding care, respect, and patience, then he considers it a success.

Sustainability, too, runs through his approach — and it’s something the wider racing industry is now addressing more seriously. Efficiency, welfare, and respect for the land are becoming part of the modern trainer’s mindset. “You have to adapt constantly,” he says, “to stay both humane and forward-looking.”

Standing on the gallops, the link between land and livelihood feels clear. Each stride seems part of the same long story — one that Tattersalls has carried forward for more than two centuries, from these fields to the sale ring.

The Bell Rings at Tattersalls

By mid-morning, we’re at Tattersalls. The crowd gathers, voices low with anticipation. At 10:55, the bell rings — the signal that Book 1 is about to begin. Outside, horses parade in the crisp light; inside, the ring fills with a focused quiet. Handlers are poised, buyers attentive, and within minutes, the first lot steps forward.

The auctioneer works with calm precision; bids are exchanged through the smallest of gestures — a nod, a glance. It’s a quiet theatre of high stakes, where fortunes can shift in seconds. It’s easy to forget how much risk sits behind each movement, how uncertain the business remains, no matter how much data or pedigree you bring to it.

George Scott calls Tattersalls “a marketplace for work, but also for people — a place with a certain magic to it.” That balance between commerce and community still defines the institution today.

Jason Singh, Tattersalls’ Marketing Director, explains how that heritage continues to evolve. “Our history gives us credibility,” he says, “but we also have to speak in new voices. We promote across traditional and digital platforms to reach different generations.”

Tattersalls has also embraced innovation with TattersallsOnline.com, allowing horses to be sold remotely — reducing transport, cost, and carbon footprint. “It’s more efficient and sustainable,” Singh notes, “but there will always be something irreplaceable about gathering in person.”

Beyond the sale ring, Tattersalls supports racing charities such as Retraining of Racehorses, ensuring that welfare remains central to its work. “We all have a role in protecting the sport’s future,” Jason adds. “That means looking after the horses long after the hammer falls.”

Internationally, Tattersalls remains a magnet for global buyers — a delicate balance, Jason admits. “There’s always a risk of a talent drain,” he says. “But many international buyers now choose to own and race in Britain — a huge vote of confidence in our industry. The best bloodstock is still being bred here in Britain and Ireland, and that’s something we’re proud of.”

That global pull — and the challenge of maintaining identity within it — mirrors the wider questions racing faces today. As demand grows overseas and costs rise at home, more voices within the industry are calling for racing to keep evolving, both in how it tells its stories and how it supports those within it. Heritage alone isn’t enough; connection, communication, and care are what will sustain it.

The People Driving Change

If Tattersalls represents legacy, its strength lies in the people who are reshaping it for the future. Among them is Emma Banks, one of the world’s leading music agents — and the owner of Lady Bowthorpe, one of British racing’s most beloved fillies.

Emma’s story bridges two creative worlds — music and racing — both built on instinct, trust, and the art of recognising potential. “In both industries, you’re backing instinct,” she says. “You can analyse all you like, but sometimes you just know.” She compares choosing a horse to signing an artist — spotting talent, nurturing it, and giving it the space to thrive.

Her entry into racing came not through legacy, but love. “I’ve always loved horses,” she says. “When I could finally get involved, I just thought — why not?” That curiosity led to Lady Bowthorpe — a mare who gave her a once-in-a-lifetime moment with her 2021 Nassau Stakes win and continues to do so through her foals. “She was the gift that keeps giving,” Emma says. “She gave me moments I never dreamed of, and now she’s giving again.”

That belief — in potential, in possibility — is what keeps her hooked. “We all buy a dream,” she says simply. “That’s what makes Tattersalls so special. You walk in, hoping your story might be the next one to unfold.”

Emma is clear-eyed about racing’s future. “The sport has to be brave enough to evolve,” she says. “It needs to tell its stories better, celebrate its people, and make newcomers feel welcome.” For her, Tattersalls embodies that shift — a world steeped in heritage but ready to open its doors wider. “Racing might look exclusive from the outside,” she says, “but once you step in, you realise how many good people want to share it.”

Her advice to newcomers is simple: ask questions, visit a yard, and get curious. “If you love animals and the theatre of it all, you’ll find your place.”

The Heartbeat of Heritage

Walking through the sales pavilion, it’s impossible not to feel the pull of history. The oak railings, the murmured bids, the flick of a catalogue page — all unchanged in essence for centuries. Yet what’s striking is how forward-thinking many here have become.

From Highclere Thoroughbred Racing, led by The Honourable Harry Herbert, to the newer syndicates making ownership more accessible, there’s a sense that the sport is opening up while remaining anchored in its roots.

Harry’s philosophy captures that balance perfectly. “Legacy in racing is about stewardship,” he says. “It’s ensuring the sport’s future by protecting its integrity, its welfare standards, and its connection to the land.”

Highclere’s model, where groups of owners share the thrill and cost of racehorse ownership, has helped democratise an elite world — and, crucially, build community. “It’s about sharing the experience,” Harry says. “From watching a yearling grow into a champion, to celebrating together at the track — it’s the people that make it.”

Sustainability, too, is a growing focus. “All of us in the sport have a responsibility to be as sustainable as possible,” Harry says. “It’s something the British Horseracing Association and the Jockey Club take seriously, but it’s also about individual accountability. We’re already an inclusive sport, but we must keep evolving to ensure it flourishes with the times.”

A Living Tradition

By evening, as the crowd thins and the ring quiets, the magic of Tattersalls lingers. Deals have been struck, dreams have shifted hands, and yet the sense of continuity feels unbroken.

Tattersalls is not just an auction house — it’s a living organism of heritage, innovation, and human connection. From the misty gallops at dawn to the quiet electricity of the sale ring, it captures the soul of British horseracing: a world built on instinct, respect, and evolution.

As I leave Newmarket, the image that stays with me is George Scott at sunrise — standing still, listening to the sound of horses breathing as the light breaks. In that moment, it’s clear: this world, for all its prestige and power, still beats to something beautifully simple — the partnership between people and horses that has carried it forward for centuries.

Rolex Legends: triumph in front of friends and family at Goodwood https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/rolex-legends-triumph-in-front-of-friends-and-family-at-goodwood/ Tue, 16 Sep 2025 18:37:40 +0000 https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/rolex-legends-triumph-in-front-of-friends-and-family-at-goodwood/ Goodwood Revival: A Nostalgic Return to Motoring Glory

The weekend saw crowds of more than 150,000 transported back in time to the Goodwood Motor Circuit’s heyday between 1948 and 1966, when the West Sussex venue was a regular fixture on the international motoring scene. From Friday 12 to Sunday 14 September, spectators and classic car enthusiasts celebrated the timeless spirit of racing at this year’s Goodwood Revival, with Rolex Testimonees going head-to-head on the legendary track and triumphing at the finish line. Rolex has been the Official Timepiece of the gathering and Title Sponsor of the Rolex Drivers’ Club since 2004, honouring the event’s commitment to this bygone era and the storied journeys which play out on and off the track.

Rolex Testimonees Shine: Jenson Button’s Maiden Victory

Founded by The Duke of Richmond in 1998, the Goodwood Revival is a dazzling display of cars, costumes, and characters, which create a unique sense of camaraderie. At the Rolex Drivers’ Club, racing heroes and their families find a second home, reunited in their shared love of the sport’s past and present. Among them this year were a trio of Rolex Testimonees and well-known faces at the event: Sir Jackie Stewart, Tom Kristensen, and Jenson Button.

Taking a break from the 2025 FIA World Endurance Championship, Button started the race weekend in exemplary fashion, claiming his first Goodwood Revival victory in the Freddie March Memorial Trophy at the wheel of his 1952 Jaguar C-Type. Speaking of his maiden win at the Goodwood Revival, with his family watching on, Button says:

“The Revival is one of my favourite weekends of the year and it was fantastic to return and compete alongside close friends. Taking my C-Type to victory with Alex Buncombe was a special moment – my first win at Goodwood and in this car which has so much racing history. The Settrington Cup was especially meaningful as well. Watching my two children race alongside one another, with the whole family supporting, was truly memorable.”

Tom Kristensen’s Double Triumph and Reflections

On Sunday, the circuit set the stage for a meeting of motor sport champions as the British racing legend competed alongside Kristensen in the Royal Automobile Club TT Celebration. The Danish nine-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans was fresh from a spectacular victory in the St. Mary’s Trophy Part 1 on Saturday afternoon, having previously earned the winner’s wreath in the same race in 2010 and 2015. Kristensen reflects on his memories at the Goodwood Motor Circuit:

“It’s 15 years since I first came to the glorious Goodwood Revival and I’ve returned almost every year since. The St Mary’s is a great race, the competitiveness and the drivers it attracts are of a high level. We won the race in 2010 and in 2015 and it’s very special to win all these years later. The Revival is about so much more than winning – we are celebrating the great history of our sport while enjoying past times with fellow racers, family, and passionate fans.”

Commenting on the atmosphere in the Rolex Drivers’ Club after the race, Kristensen continues:

“The Rolex Drivers’ Club is where all the good stories and camaraderie between drivers unfolds. Rolex’s support of the event and this space is integral to its magical atmosphere – the brand is always associated with the best events in the world.”

Tribute to Jim Clark and Sir Jackie Stewart’s Legacy

This year’s Revival paid an emotional tribute to the late Jim Clark. It was 60 years ago, on the sweeping corners of the Goodwood Motor Circuit in 1965, that Clark and Sir Jackie recorded identical lap times of 1 minute 20.4 seconds – a feat that remains unchallenged and stands as a testament to their immense talent. The Scotsmen’s rivalry defined an era of racing, while their deep mutual respect transcended the sport. To mark the milestone, The Duke and Duchess of Richmond presented Sir Jackie with the Goodwood Ton Trophy in honour of his contribution to the motoring world and in memory of his dear friend. Part of the Rolex family of Testimonees since 1968, Sir Jackie has returned to the Revival year after year, keeping alive the memories of this golden age of racing while making monumental strides for the next generation.

Timeless Elegance and Rolex’s Perpetual Legacy

The immersive energy and nostalgia extended far beyond the racetrack and stood firm under the unpredictable British skies. Families arrived in carefully curated period attire and drivers prepared to race in front of their loved ones, sharing the emotions and celebrating the sport that they have dedicated their lives to. As the hum of engines softened and the event drew to a close, Rolex continued its tradition of awarding a specially engraved timepiece to the Driver of the Meeting, recognising Chris Ward for his passion for motor racing and competing on the track. This year, the Swiss watchmaker presented a Perpetual 1908 for the first time at the Revival, a fitting accolade which embodies heritage and timeless elegance, a spirit that has characterised Goodwood since cars first raced there in 1948, and will do so for decades to come.

I left feeling refreshed, pampered, and eager to return.

Home House – London’s most iconic private members club https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/home-house-londons-most-iconic-private-members-club/ Tue, 20 Feb 2024 19:44:21 +0000 https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/home-house-londons-most-iconic-private-members-club/ Located in the heart of Marylebone and just minutes away from Hyde Park, Home House, London’s most iconic private members’ club, provides the ideal setting to escape everyday life and unwind in opulent surroundings. Set across three stunning Georgian townhouses, this exceptional London palace bears the marks of eccentric tales, setting the scene for a staycation like no other. This winter, Home House members’ club celebrates its 25th anniversary and over 250 years of extraordinary heritage.

A shrine to hedonism in the centre of London, Home House was originally commissioned by Lady Home as a sophisticated palace designed purely for enjoyment to entertain London’s high society of the 18th century. Famous at the time, Lady Home earned the nickname “Queen of Hell” for her irascible behaviour and lavish parties. Designed in 1773 by leading architects James Wyatt and Robert Adam, the walls that were home to many famous personalities throughout the years still host a collection of colourful characters and individuals today.

The 23 bedrooms and suites at Home House, named after the house’s intriguing guests, including Earl (Charles) Grey and Anthony Blunt, are luxuriously spacious and retain their 18th-century style of capaciousness. Each room enjoys an alluring anecdote. The deep red marble in Lady Islington’s bathroom on the second floor of the House comes from the same stone that was used in the star inlay on the floor in the centre of the dome in St. Paul’s Cathedral, London. The bath found in the Duke of Atholl’s suite on the third floor was made for His Highness Say Aji Rao III, Maharajah Gaekwad of Baroda (1863-1939).

During the time of their stay, bedroom guests will have access to the club’s exceptional range of facilities including restaurants, bars, an exclusive nightclub (The Vaults) which can be hired for private events, the garden, a cigar lounge, a boardroom, a gym, as well as a thriving calendar of exclusive members’ events.

Members’ rates start from £225 and non-members rates from £275 per night for a Club Room. Reservations can be made via email reservations@homehouse.co.uk.

Home House London Dry Gin

It’s an exceptionally exciting time for the club, as Home House now has its very own London Dry Gin. Inspired by the Countess of Home’s favourite drink, the club has partnered with award-winning luxury gin distillery Oro, based in Lockerbie, Scotland, to create a unique spirit that captures the extraordinary heritage and epicurean essence of Home House. The gin has already been awarded a Master medal and a gold medal at The Global Spirits Masters, a gold medal in the European Spirits Challenge, a silver medal at the World Gin Awards and a bronze at the IWSC Awards.

Stories of Lady Home’s international travels and adventures inspire the Home House London Dry Gin, taking botanicals from around the globe that are rather unique in gin production. Home House’s General Manager Giuseppe De Wilde and his team worked very closely with Oro’s head distiller Ray Clynick, creating experimental flavour profiles in their lab for tastings, carefully refining and re-designing the spirit until reaching the desired flavour profile.

During its exclusive launch phase, the Home House London Dry Gin is available for purchase by members only via the Home House website and via the club’s front desk, priced at £42.50.

The Other House South Kensington London: Tearing up the rule book https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/the-other-house-tearing-up-the-rule-book/ Fri, 14 Oct 2022 15:46:10 +0000 https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/the-other-house-tearing-up-the-rule-book/ Hotel service, club facilities and apartment-style living: think pied-à-terre meets private club London. The Other House South Kensington provides all its residents with apartment-style living, club facilities and hotel services on tap – and no membership is required.

The concept, shaped through a residential lens rather than a conventional hotel approach, offers something completely unique for those wanting to live like a local, to feel it is their other house, whatever the length of stay – be it a day, a month or a year.

It is as much an exciting, eclectic, boldly designed new destination for guests coming for just a few days as it is a London bolt-hole for those who moved to the country during the pandemic or international visitors needing a place in London to call home. Offering ‘Club Flats’, a Private Club for residents and hotel services, it is the first of this type of accommodation that the UK has seen.

Located on leafy Harrington Gardens, South Kensington, behind the impressive façade of 11 grand Victorian townhouses, the interior has been completely renovated and reconfigured. It now houses over 200 Club Flats, private meeting and dining rooms and exciting event spaces. Its Private Club for residents includes two bars, a screening room and extensive wellness and wellbeing spaces, including a vitality pool, state-of-the-art gym and a meditation hub. For a more local vibe, there is an all-day street café, The Other Kitchen, and a signature cocktail bar, The Owl and Monkey.

There are many configurations of Club Flats, including the Club Originals, Club Class, Club Vaults and Club Collection – all embracing the period architecture of the buildings they are within. They range from studio-style flats to three bedrooms, 247 sqft (23 sqm) to 656 sqft (61 sqm). For larger groups, there are Club Combos – options to interconnect two, three or four Club Flats all behind a single front door or around a private internal courtyard – up to 1,238 sqft (115 sqm).

Club Flats are located along ‘streets’, each named after people of note from the local area – so no soulless corridors and floor numbers. A rich colour palette layered with velvets, British tweed and wool features a panelled sitting room, fully equipped kitchen/diner, a bedroom and elegant shower room, giving every Club Flat a unique address of its own.

Naomi Heaton, Co-owner and CEO at The Other House, who has helped mastermind the project and brings extensive property restoration and rental know-how from London Central Portfolio Ltd (LCP), a leading real estate investment advisory which she founded over 30 years ago, comments: “Working with heritage architecture brings its challenges and there have been unexpected discoveries as well as some delightful surprises, in many cases not uncovered until the strip-out process in the early stages. Restoring historic buildings is incredibly rewarding and is what will make our Residents’ Clubs individual, unique and embedded with history. Given my background, we are acquiring assets in the very heart of central London and generally in need of refurbishment and reorganisation. This enables us to make our vision a reality while minimising environmental impact and breathing new life into these dilapidated buildings.”

Design Inspiration

The Other House has worked closely with the award-winning, London-based Bergman Design House as their interior design partner. The inspiration for the interiors was derived from the local culture of South Kensington – a unique area brimming with art, design and tradition. The spirit of whimsy and English eccentricity was the starting point for the design – guided by beguiling gardens, interesting architecture, the language of arches and the nearby Gloucester Road tube station. This narrative is echoed throughout the entire building, connecting spaces, leading residents from one experience to the next. The result? A voyage of discovery, a world that is fantastical and flamboyant, but also relaxing and comforting in equal measure. All brought to life by the very best of British craftsmanship.

Sustainability

Sustainability underpins every decision that is made at The Other House and to this end initiatives have been implemented from construction through to operations – with the aim of achieving the BREEAM ‘Excellent’ category, representing only the top 10% of buildings. From using materials with a low environmental impact to carrying out lifecycle assessments to inform selection, it is committed to sourcing products from verified environmentally friendly suppliers and supporting local artisans and craftsmanship. Furniture, fittings and fabrics throughout the Residents’ Club from the front of house to the Club Flats are from British design houses.

It all adds up to a genuine retreat in the heart of the capital where an investment in eco-consciousness is just as seamlessly integrated as modern amenities and inspirational design. It is a destination for the wise owl who cares for the planet and the curious monkey who are looking for great experiences. Hence the name of the eponymous Owl and Monkey cocktail bar at The Other House. Which are you? To find out, The Other House South Kensington showcases the best in British design, with sustainability and positive social and environmental impact at its core.

Ambassadors

With the aim of creating great experiences and becoming a home for engaging conversations and events, The Other House has partnered with a number of ambassadors, each with their own unique spin on different aspects of The Other House. These include Pandora Sykes, DJ Fat Tony and Arizona Muse, who encapsulate The Other House ethos of being ‘wise as an owl and curious as a monkey’ (the wise owl who cares for people and the planet and the curious monkey who looks for new experiences).

Pandora Sykes

Pandora Sykes is a journalist, broadcaster and author of the Sunday Times bestselling essay collection, How Do We Know We’re Doing It Right?. A judge for the 2022 Women’s Prize for Fiction Awards, she hosts a monthly book club, Pandora’s Books, and has created numerous podcasts and audio documentaries. Pandora has curated The Library for The Other House. Using her extensive knowledge and love of books, she has pulled together a collection of her favourite fiction and non-fiction titles, spanning from classics to the contemporary. She will also be giving The Other House residents recommendations of her favourite parts of London, places to read and book shops.

Pandora Sykes commented:

“After certain humans, books are the most important thing in my life. I spend every evening possible reading. And the hours which are not spent reading are spent moving books from shelf to shelf, placing old favourites next to new neighbours. It is truly, as Zadie Smith once described her reading habits, a sanctioned addiction. I love non-fiction as much as fiction, with the former sating my hunger for knowledge and the latter fuelling my imagination and providing me with an escape. It is therefore a huge honour to have been asked to curate The Library at The Other House. I am so pleased to have shared some of my most loved books with the residents—and I so hope they enjoy my choices.”

DJ Fat Tony

DJ Fat Tony first found fame in 1980s London as a DJ and is one of the best-known faces on the global social scene. Fat Tony has curated The Other House playlist, working with the team to create a selection of his favourite songs that he feels will resonate with The Other House audience. Guests will also be able to request the playlist for private dinners, events and parties. He will also be giving The Other House residents recommendations of his favourite music shops and evening venues in London.

DJ Fat Tony says:

“I grew up with music, and it’s one of the main factors of my life—it gives me life. When I was asked to collaborate with The Other House, I wanted to create a playlist that resonates with both the residents, who are making it their home, and the guests who are looking for an awesome evening in the private dining areas. I am looking forward to sharing some of my favourite locations around London that inspire me and my love of music. It’s an honour to share with you the music that means so much to me.”

Arizona Muse

Arizona Muse is an ambassador and consultant for sustainability in the fashion industry. She will be sharing her tips with The Other House residents on London’s sustainable offering. Sustainability is pivotal to all aspects of The Other House, from using materials with a low environmental impact to carrying out lifecycle assessments to inform interior design choices. Arizona will be recommending some of her favourite vegan restaurants, fashion concept stores and sustainable places to visit around South Kensington. Most importantly, using her extensive research on the topic of sustainability, she will be sharing her tips on how to live a more sustainable life with The Other House residents.

Arizona Muse recalls:

“The brand has shown a deep commitment to sustainability: from sourcing products from verified, environmentally friendly suppliers, to supporting local artisans and craftsmanship, which is so important to me. I’m excited to be able to use this platform to share the knowledge I have gained, which I also hope will spark an interest in sustainability in other people.”

CEO Comment

Naomi Heaton, Co-owner and CEO at The Other House, explained: “A key strand of our vision was to partner with ambassadors who encapsulate and promote the different values that are important to us at The Other House. Our ambassadors will help us create memorable experiences for our residents through music, books, culture and fun as well as joining in our commitment to a more sustainable planet. They will help us make The Other House much more than just a place to stay but a place to live like a local and I am delighted that Pandora Sykes, DJ Fat Tony and Arizona Muse will be part of this. We are incredibly excited to officially open our doors in South Kensington on 5th July and see The Other House come to life.”

What makes a good golf course? Maybe a course that more than just golf https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/what-makes-a-good-golf-course/ Mon, 30 May 2022 12:44:38 +0000 https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/what-makes-a-good-golf-course/ They call golf the sport of kings for a reason. It’s an incredibly dynamic, skilful game that can be played by almost anyone with the patience and determination to learn it. But besides getting the right golf clubs and learning how to drive and putt, the variable that arguably makes the most difference to your game is the course you play on.

Choosing Your Ideal Golf Course

For most of us, we’ll be joining a regular golf club and playing the same 18 holes every week, so ensuring that the course is up to scratch is imperative. But what makes a good golf course and what makes a great one? Here are some of the things you might want to look out for when shopping around for your next golf home.

The Architecture of a Golf Course

The architecture of a golf course is how the banks and hills have been placed to make the game as creative and enjoyable as possible. There is a definite art to golf architecture that is difficult to boil down to one specific factor, but there are three that definitely play a part.

1. Fairway

The fairway refers to the part of the course where the ball is designed to land and is made up of the fringe linking the green and the landing zone. A substantial fairway should offer plenty of landing space and opportunities for strategy, though it is always going to be governed by the surroundings. That’s why wide-open spaces typically make for the best golf courses and the best fairways.

2. Routing

This refers to the direction in which the holes are played. Routing is often designed to take wind direction into account, and the course architect will likely spend dozens of hours measuring wind speed and direction before settling on a final route. The length of the holes and their difficulty will also, of course, be taken into consideration.

3. Diversity

A course that has multiple different types of golf course obstacles and shots (long and short holes, sandpits, hazards etc.) is always going to be more interesting and unique than one that sticks to the tried and tested. Variety is the spice of life, after all. We’re not saying you have to look for a large-scale crazy golf course, as gimmicks rarely make for good golf. But a course that’s eclectic enough to provide a completely different experience at every hole is always going to mean more enjoyable repeat visits.

Golfing on the Go

Of course, when you’re on holiday, you’re going to want to savour the very best courses from around the world. Before you go, check out some local courses online and see what kind of courses are around. The Dundonald Links in Scotland, for example, offers luxury stay-and-play lodges alongside a famous par-72 golf course. Located at the very heart of Ayrshire, it’s an ideal home away from home for golfers of all levels.

MSC Virtuosa – A Yacht Club Experience for any special occasion https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/msc-virtuosa-a-yacht-club-experience-for-any-special-occasion/ Thu, 12 May 2022 08:36:52 +0000 https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/msc-virtuosa-a-yacht-club-experience-for-any-special-occasion/ Why Choose MSC Virtuosa Yacht Club?

Are you having trouble deciding what to do with your well-earned holidays for this year or next? Tired of the same oversubscribed holiday spots? Well, it may be time to make room for a mini-break aboard the high seas with the Yacht Club on MSC Virtuosa – the perfect trip for cruising novices to experienced cruisers.

One of Luxuria Lifestyle’s travel writers and I jumped on board to enjoy a unique stay from Southampton to Guernsey and are here to get you cruise savvy by sharing the ins and outs.

Yacht Club Luxury

The MSC Virtuosa arrived in the port of Southampton where we boarded. Things were a little chaotic at the port so if, like me, you are not a fan of swimming in crowds, we would highly recommend the Yacht Club butler and concierge service. It offers priority boarding with a personal butler to whisk you straight through with no questions asked.

Upon checking into the room, we were delighted to find chocolate-dipped strawberries and prosecco waiting. But my favourite part had to be the private balcony overlooking the shimmering sapphire sea. For a moment we almost forgot we were in the UK. With ample space for two to sit and enjoy the sun and a moment of peace and tranquillity with a book, the trip was off to a great start.

Dining Delights

We settled in and set off for lunch visiting HOLA Tacos & Cantina. The street food dining concept offers a selection of delicious Latin American and Mexican-inspired dishes and drinks to be shared and enjoyed. Naturally, we decided to start our holiday the right way, with a jug of margaritas, accompanied by guacamole and tacos to share and a main to ourselves.

The concept of the Yacht Club is for it to be a “ship within a ship” for those seeking exclusivity and privacy within a world of choice. And we certainly felt this throughout our first day, ending with being wined and dined in the private restaurant, over a delicious three-course meal.

The next day started a little differently, with us deciding to treat ourselves to a rare and cherished moment of relaxation after busy weeks of work by getting a massage at the MSC Aurea Spa, followed by a post-massage soak in the jacuzzi overlooking the ocean.

In the afternoon we were spoilt with afternoon tea and prosecco at the Yacht Club. This was accompanied by gourmet La Via del Tè teas and a very experienced waiter to take us through the origins of the selections. This was a lovely touch that made it a very personal experience. The highlight was definitely the Jean Philippe macarons, a truly melt-in-your-mouth experience. You may have a plate or five of any of your favourite afternoon tea selections.

If you are a Japanese food lover, I’d highly recommend dinner at Kaito Teppanyaki. Be sure to make a booking as there are limited seats for this intimate experience. The chef was interactive and delivered an entertaining culinary show.

Entertainment and Activities

After lunch, we took a tour of the cruise, getting to sample all the activities and entertainment on offer, and I was impressed.

Pro tip: Explore the cruise and check out their daily planner at the beginning of your trip to browse the activities available so you don’t miss out.

If sports are your thing, then the huge 390m² sporting area is a must with ample basketball, volleyball, football, and tennis facilities. Or why not head to one of the ship’s lounges for a dance class or sing your heart out at a karaoke session.

If none of those appeal the pool deck with its very impressive aquapark (at sea?!) and an innovative Himalayan Bridge where guests can attach themselves to a rope course and cross the ship. A truly unique experience for adults looking for a bit of adventure. Alternatively, you can try your luck at Virtuosa’s Red Gem Casino, where you have a selection of 164 slot machines, 12 tables and the latest gaming technology to choose from.

If you’re a fitness fanatic like my guest and I, you will be impressed with the fitness space the MSC Gym had to offer. Kitted out with state-of-the-art high-quality Technogym equipment. We had a fab time doing partnered workouts, perfect for those still looking to stay in shape while on this unique experience.

The highlight of the trip had to be the Arkymea show in the Carousel Lounge, an intimate state-of-the-art venue. The stage and production of the show were magical, as it featured breath-taking acrobatics, dance and music, from aerial acts to diabolo and more, to create a multi-sensory entertainment experience. It had a unique 360° rotating stage, with the carousel in the middle of the lounge, and a wall to display custom-made graphics, which all made it feel as if I was in dreamland.

We made friends on the cruise, and The Hologate Arena was the perfect group activity as it transported us into the immersive world of virtual reality to fight robots, zombies, and dragons. The futuristic technology attracts young adults onto the cruise.

Who Should Cruise MSC Virtuosa?

The age demographics varied from young adults on a hen-do to families with kids and grandparents. The 2-night all-inclusive trip can appeal to young adults to get away for a boozy party, or relax during a spa weekend. With the variety of kids’ entertainment, it’s no surprise parents would pick a cruise to keep their kids occupied whilst they can enjoy a holiday at the same time. We also met a heart-warming family in the Yacht Club, who were of three generations, with the cruise being the perfect place for a reunion as guests can enjoy an intimate luxury holiday whilst everything is in the palm of their hands in a safe environment.

The Continuum and Residence Yacht Club join forces for South Florida residents https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/the-continuum-and-residence-yacht-club-join-forces-for-south-florida-residents/ Thu, 28 Apr 2022 09:50:33 +0000 https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/the-continuum-and-residence-yacht-club-join-forces-for-south-florida-residents/ Luxury Yacht Charter Partnership Launches for Continuum Residents

Premium yacht charter membership programme allows concierges to offer an exclusive experience to homeowners.

Continuum, South Florida’s premier resort-style oceanfront condominium residences in Miami Beach, has formed a unique alliance with one of the region’s premium yacht charter organisations, delivering a white-glove luxury yachting experience for residents in South Florida.

Exclusive Access to a Privately Owned Fleet

The Continuum has partnered with Residence Yacht Club, a members-only luxury yacht charter company designed to offer a five-star sailing experience to luxury condominium properties and their residents. As a founding member of the private programme, the Continuum Homeowners Association can now offer its residents a recommended luxury charter experience for couples, families, and large groups, with access to a privately-owned fleet of premium yachts based in Miami Beach.

Unlike many yacht charter companies that invite outside owners to join their vast inventory, Residence Yacht Club owns and/or manages its exclusive fleet of yachts, enabling every vessel and its crew to be coordinated with the highest precision and utmost quality control. A smaller pool of premium yachts, owned and operated by the company’s management team, guarantees the overall experience—from booking to disembarkation—is meticulous to meet the needs of an affluent and discerning clientele.

Tailor-Made Voyages and All-Inclusive Charters

Residence Yacht Club offers charters for a single day in South Florida, up to multiple month-long excursions and trips throughout the Caribbean. Every Captain, team of stewardesses, and crew are handpicked with a best-in-class industry reputation and experience, providing residents with a premium and customised charter experience based on the crew’s familiarity with the clientele’s needs, background, and history on the water.

A property’s concierge can search an inventory of featured yachts online and offer residents a tailor-made voyage: from a late-night dinner party with five-star catering or a private chef, to a day of family fun with water toys and jet skis. Every charter is commissioned to make the group feel as if they own their own yacht and comes with complimentary wine or champagne, a fresh fruit platter, as well as bespoke towels, cushions, and onboard accessories that can be branded by the property.

All-inclusive charters include the cost of fuel, service fees, and the option of “VIP Sprinter” transportation to collect and drop off residents at home or the desired location prior to and following the charter.

Leadership Insights and Founding Vision

“We’re delighted to form a founding membership and unique alliance with Residence Yacht Club,” says Rishi Idnani, Managing Director at Continuum. “Until now, residents have had to make their own arrangements to enjoy our beautiful waters. The attraction for our Homeowners Association was how Residence Yacht Club is able to ‘white label’ a yacht charter experience as if the Continuum has its own fleet. The exclusivity of the membership and seamless booking platform for our concierge team ensures that our residents receive an authentic luxury charter experience, with an intimacy that very few premium and often larger charter companies can guarantee. We like the personal touch that Residence Yacht Club pledges.”

Residence Yacht Club was founded by Miami Beach native Eric Levin, a seasoned entrepreneur and business owner known throughout the South Florida region for his vast experience in the technology, entertainment, and hospitality industries. Eric’s unique business model for Residence Yacht Club is based upon a corporate membership programme for high-end luxury condominium properties and their respective heads of the Homeowners Association. Property concierges can take advantage of the HOA membership through access to the fleet and inventory offered by Residence Yacht Club for residents. In addition to the Continuum as its founding member, Residence Yacht Club also has Faena, 1 Hotel and Residences, and Fisher Island among its marquee clientele.

Residence Yacht Club offers an inventory of yachts ranging in size from 55 feet to 120 feet, starting at $3,000 for a 4-hour excursion.
