With clinics in Clapham and Balham, the practice is positioning oral health as a central pillar of overall wellbeing—where prevention, function and aesthetics work in harmony.

At the core of Ten Dental’s philosophy is the belief that a healthy smile is intrinsically linked to long-term systemic health. Expanding its preventative offering, the clinic now provides advanced oral microbiome testing (£350), a saliva-based analysis that evaluates bacterial balance to identify early risk factors for gum disease, tooth decay and chronic inflammation. With growing evidence connecting oral health to cardiovascular disease, metabolic conditions and wider inflammatory processes, this data-driven approach allows clinicians to design highly personalised treatment plans before symptoms arise.

Further reinforcing its longevity focus, Ten Dental has introduced custom mandibular advancement device (MAD) splints (£1,500), fitted by Dr Ali Nassar, who has a special interest in sleep medicine. Designed to improve airflow during sleep by gently repositioning the jaw, the device reduces snoring and supports deeper, more restorative rest—an increasingly important factor in long-term health. As Dr Nassar explains, “Improving sleep quality isn’t just about feeling better day to day, it plays a fundamental role in long-term health and how well we age.”

Alongside its preventative innovations, Ten Dental remains a destination for advanced smile makeovers and restorative dentistry. Co-founder Dr Martin Wanendeya is internationally recognised for his pioneering implant techniques, including a refined full-arch bridge approach that preserves natural bone and gum structure. This minimally invasive method enhances long-term stability, simplifies maintenance and delivers superior aesthetic results using advanced ceramic materials, offering patients a future-focused alternative to traditional implant systems.

The clinic’s multidisciplinary team also delivers a full spectrum of cosmetic and general dentistry treatments, from Invisalign, bonding and whitening to full smile rehabilitation. Known for their natural, camera-ready results, Ten Dental is particularly supportive of smile makeover features, often collaborating closely with press and patients on transformative journeys.

Beyond dentistry, Ten Dental + Facial integrates non-surgical aesthetic treatments to complement and enhance overall facial harmony. This holistic approach ensures that smile design is considered within the wider context of facial structure, ageing and skin health, creating results that feel balanced, subtle and individual.

With increasing interest in wellness trends such as mouth taping, Ten Dental continues to provide expert, evidence-based guidance on the connection between breathing, sleep and oral health. Emphasising the importance of nasal breathing and airway function, the clinic’s approach reflects a broader shift towards treating the mouth as an integral part of whole-body health.

By combining cutting-edge science, clinical expertise and aesthetic precision, Ten Dental + Facial is redefining what modern dentistry looks like—moving beyond reactive treatment towards a proactive, longevity-driven model designed to support patients at every stage of life.

My Hair Transplant Journey so far with Dr Tam, London https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/my-hair-transplant-journey-so-far-with-dr-tam-london/ Tue, 21 Apr 2026 08:32:42 +0000 https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/?p=110535 I work as a tennis coach, so most of my time is spent out on court, talking to people face-to-face. Confidence kind of comes with the job, whether you like it or not. Over the last couple of years, though, I started noticing my hairline creeping back a bit, as in the photo above, not the end of the world, I know, but it did start to get in my head more than I expected.

Eventually, I decided to actually do something about it and booked a consultation with Dr Mark Tam on Harley Street in London. I’d heard the name before and knew people travel from all over for it, so I thought, why not at least see what Dr Tam had to say?

From the first appointment, it all felt pretty straightforward. No sales pitch, no overpromising, just a normal conversation about what was going on and what could realistically be done. That was probably the biggest thing for me. It didn’t feel like I was being pushed into anything.

Dr Tam explained the whole process in a way that actually made sense. Not overly technical, just clear, what happens, how long it takes, what to expect afterwards. And yeah, they were very upfront about the fact that this isn’t some instant fix. If you’re expecting to walk out with perfect hair overnight… you’re probably dreaming (or buying a wig, to be honest).

One thing I appreciated was how much they emphasised patience. I was told early on that the transplanted hairs would shed in the first few weeks, so when that happened, I didn’t panic. Apparently, the real growth doesn’t properly kick in until around 3–4 months, and full results can take up to a year. Sounds like a long time, but at least I knew what I was signing up for.

The procedure itself was… honestly, smoother than I expected.  I went in a bit nervous, not going to lie, but the whole environment was calm and professional, which helped settle me pretty quickly. It started with an early morning session, where the treatment area was marked out, and the hair follicles to be removed were identified. To put it simply, those follicles were then carefully placed into the receding hairline. The whole process took several hours, but we did get a good break in the middle for a burger and fries, which definitely helped.  A few hours later, it was all done, and I was sent home with aftercare instructions, simple enough to follow, no confusion.

Now I’m about six weeks in, and I’m very much in that awkward middle stage. The hairs have shed (as promised), and there’s no new growth yet, but again, I knew this was coming. It’s a bit of a waiting game now. The upside is, it doesn’t actually look weird or obvious, which I was slightly worried about.

Another thing that’s been good is the follow-up. They don’t just send you on your way and forget about you; there are check-ins planned over the next year to keep an eye on things. It makes it feel more like an ongoing process rather than a one-off thing.

It’s still early, so I can’t say much about results yet, but overall I feel good about the decision. Just taking action on something that was bothering me has made a difference mentally, if nothing else.

Six weeks down… a fair bit to go. I’ll keep an eye on how it develops; hopefully, the interesting part starts soon.

So watch this space…

Refined, Radiant Skin Thanks to Marylebone Skin Clinic https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/refined-radiant-skin-thanks-to-marylebone-skin-clinic-2/ Tue, 07 Apr 2026 09:29:33 +0000 https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/?p=109822 I recently had a laser treatment with Dr Denning at her London clinic, and I couldn’t be more pleased with the experience and the results. From the moment I arrived, everything felt professional, calm, and reassuring, which immediately put me at ease, although I was thinking more along the lines of a little filler and wrinkle relaxant, but was gently guided towards a more forward-thinking treatment!

What really stood out to me was how clearly the technical info of the treatment was explained. Dr Denning took the time to chat with me about how the laser works at a deeper level, targeting specific layers of the skin with various lasers to stimulate collagen production, reduce redness and refine the skin texture, while preserving the surrounding tissue. She explained how the wavelength selection and pulse duration are carefully calibrated to ensure maximum effect, which gave me real confidence that the treatment was both advanced and safe.

During the treatment itself, I appreciated how precise and controlled everything felt. The technology is impressive, and I could tell that great care was taken to ensure perfect coverage. Despite the sophistication of the process, the treatment was surprisingly comfortable, thanks to the cooling system and Dr Denning’s attentive approach.

Immediately following the treatment, my skin felt extremely hot and looked a little red, but within the hour had completely cooled down.  The explanation about the skin’s natural healing process, where lower levels within the skin involve the regeneration and gradual healing, really helped me understand what was happening beneath the surface. Over the following weeks, I saw a visible improvement in texture, tone, and overall radiance.

Overall, this was a great experience that combined amazing up-to-date technology with a genuinely personal touch. Dr Denning’s expertise and ability to communicate the science in layman’s terms made all the difference. I would absolutely recommend her clinic to anyone considering laser treatments.

To round off my appointment with Dr Denning, we agreed that a small amount of muscle relaxant would be useful around my eye area. A small amount was expertly placed around the brow to gently open up my eyes, as well as along the jawline to help relax the tight neck muscles.

I’ve had muscle relaxants to lift my brows several times over the past several years, but this is the first time the result has been so even and subtle. My brows were uniformly lifted in a way that looked completely natural, an outcome I was genuinely impressed by.

The treatment to my neck was equally successful, softening and making the ‘turkey neck’ far less noticeable. Overall, the results felt very much in keeping with a natural look.

Consultations can be booked with Dr Catharine Denning by visiting Marylebone Skin

Bhuti Facial Ritual That Left Me Radiant Inside and Out https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/bhuti-facial-ritual-that-left-me-radiant-inside-and-out/ Mon, 06 Apr 2026 18:25:23 +0000 https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/?p=110072 I recently had a facial at Bhuti in The Bingham Riverhouse in Richmond, and honestly, it was such a lovely experience, probably one of the most relaxing treatments I’ve had in a long time.

From the moment I arrived, the setting really stood out. The hotel sits right by the Thames, and there’s something about being near the water that just makes you slow down a bit. It didn’t feel rushed or overly busy, more like a quiet little escape from everything.

When I stepped into the facial room, it immediately felt calm and cosy. The lighting was soft, there were these really subtle, soothing scents in the air, and it just had that peaceful atmosphere where you can feel your shoulders drop without even thinking about it.

The facial itself lasted 75 minutes, and it flew by (always a good sign). There were a few different massage techniques involved, but the lymphatic drainage was the main focus. I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect going in, but it ended up feeling incredibly gentle and relaxing, so much so that I actually drifted off for a bit at one point.

Rebecca, my therapist, was great. She had a really calm, reassuring presence, and you could tell she knew exactly what she was doing. She explained parts of the treatment as she went along, which I appreciated; it made the whole experience feel more personal and thoughtful, rather than just going through the motions.

Afterwards, I did notice a difference pretty quickly. My skin looked fresher, a bit more lifted, and the redness had calmed down. Even my face felt less puffy, which was a nice bonus. But more than anything, I just felt really relaxed, like that lingering calm you don’t always get after treatments.

All in all, it was a genuinely enjoyable experience. Not just about the results, but the whole feeling of it. I’d definitely recommend it if you’re after something that’s both effective and properly relaxing, without feeling too clinical or over the top.

With over two decades of experience and more than 40,000 hours of hands-on clinical practice, she has built a reputation as a trusted authority in skin health, delivering transformative results while always prioritising long-term skin integrity.

Often referred to as the “skin whisperer” and “laser queen,” Debbie has developed a philosophy that moves away from traditional anti-ageing narratives. Her focus is firmly on skin health, longevity and intelligent treatment planning, working with the skin to strengthen and restore rather than aggressively treating it.

At the heart of her clinic is a completely bespoke methodology. Every client begins with an in-depth consultation, allowing treatments to be tailored to their individual skin history, lifestyle and concerns. This is underpinned by her signature approach of Treat, Repair, Maintain, a framework designed to deliver both immediate results and long-term improvement.

The D.Thomas Clinic is known for combining advanced technologies with a deep understanding of how skin behaves over time. Treatments range from laser and light therapies to needling, skin boosters and non-invasive rejuvenation, all carefully curated to support the skin barrier, reduce inflammation and encourage natural regeneration.

Her approach avoids one-size-fits-all solutions, instead focusing on consistency, balance and sustainable results. A key part of Debbie’s work is education and training. She is widely respected within the industry for mentoring practitioners and setting a higher standard in how skin treatments are delivered, with an emphasis on knowledge, precision and patient care.

Building on her clinical expertise, Debbie has also launched her skincare brand, CELLIS. Developed in response to years of working closely with patients, the range is designed to simplify routines while delivering professional-level results at home. CELLIS is built around the idea of intelligent simplicity, offering multi-functional products that support the skin barrier and overall skin health without unnecessary complexity.

The formulations are rooted in clinical experience, using carefully selected active ingredients to strengthen, repair and maintain the skin daily. Designed to work alongside in-clinic treatments or as a standalone routine, CELLIS reflects Debbie’s belief that good skin comes from consistency, not overcomplication.

Debbie Thomas continues to set herself apart through her ability to combine clinical expertise with a deeply personalised and considered approach. As the conversation around skin shifts towards health, longevity and realism, her work represents a more modern, intelligent standard in advanced skincare.

Reborne – London’s 360° Longevity Hospital https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/reborne-londons-360-longevity-hospital/ Thu, 26 Mar 2026 16:27:00 +0000 https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/?p=109930 Reborne is a private longevity hospital complete with its own operating theatre, offering a fully integrated 360-degree approach rooted in P4 Medicine (predictive, preventative, personalised and participatory care). It blends luxury with genuine medical infrastructure, diagnostics and regenerative capability.

New to their repertoire is Therapeutic Plasma Exchange (TPE), currently trending following Gwyneth Paltrow’s feature on GOOP. While increasingly discussed in wellness circles and documented among figures such as LeAnn Rimes, Orlando Bloom, Simon Cowell and Paltrow herself, TPE is not a cosmetic wellness gadget — it is hospital-grade medicine.

Reborne is the only private clinic in the UK to house the Spectra Optia Apheresis System, the same continuous-flow centrifugal technology trusted across more than 300 NHS sites for over five decades. This is not a consumer device; it is hospital-grade equipment with an exceptional safety profile demonstrated across millions of procedures.

The service is led by Dr Hisham Said, Consultant Anaesthetist and Intensive Care Physician, ensuring the highest medical oversight. Treatment duration is approximately 1.5–2 hours, significantly shorter than older systems.

Importantly, beyond the celebrity headlines, there is emerging clinical data. The randomised, controlled AMBAR trial demonstrated clinically meaningful slowing of decline in Alzheimer’s disease using plasma exchange with albumin replacement, showing:

52% less decline in daily functioning / 66% less decline in cognition / 71% less decline on CDR-sb / 100% less decline on clinician global impression

The strongest effects were observed in moderate-stage patients, suggesting potential disease-modifying impact rather than purely symptomatic relief.

With TPE now trending in public discourse, this presents a timely opportunity to explore what it actually means in a medically supervised setting.

The Bhuti Facelift Ritual: Ancient Meets Modern https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/the-bhuti-facelift-ritual-ancient-meets-modern/ Wed, 25 Mar 2026 15:17:03 +0000 https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/?p=109905 In response to the demand for transformative results without the need for aesthetics bhuti has created a hi-tech holistic facial, bhuti facelift ritual. The new facial can be found exclusively at bhuti, the soul health space at Bingham Riverhouse, the boutique hotel and members club, Richmond. The facial was created in collaboration with facialist Rebecca Maguire, whose 25 years of experience and extensive training in advanced high-touch techniques have helped to craft this unique experience.

Rebecca’s advanced knowledge of the face, including its muscles and lymph nodes, has enabled her to develop a treatment that lifts and sculpts your face. Her extensive training in innovative lymphatic skin brushing and intraoral buccal massage has been used to create a unique facial concept that helps lift and release. A bespoke hot poultice combines a unique mix of herbs and spices to reduce inflammation and enhance the skin’s moisture and texture. Each facial treatment is personalised to your skin and wellbeing journey.

It works both skin-deep and soul-deep. Each movement is attuned to your unique needs in the moment — lifting, contouring, softening, and grounding. The treatment ritual opens and closes with sound healing to enhance your relaxation. The facial is not only a soulful ritual to restore balance, but it also releases toxins and renews the skin, creating a transformative, natural facial with instant, uplifting results.

At bhuti, which means wellbeing in Sanskrit, the focus extends beyond conventional wellness. Sama Trinder, founder, comments, ‘It has been wonderful working with Rebecca to create this uplifting and functional treatment. The bhuti treatment suite is a warm, cocoon-like space, infused with scent, sound, and stillness, and includes an infrared sauna and relaxation space. The treatment will leave you feeling lifted, luminous, and glowing.”

Alongside the bhuti facelift ritual, the bhuti treatment space launched their bhuti signature massage created by Sama Trinder, legendary sound healer Anne Malone (Oasis of Sound) and Aromatherapist Kay Sabre. Together, they have created a unique healing treatment ritual. The signature massage rituals available are one-of-a-kind, combining the therapeutic benefits of sound healing and aromatherapy massage.

Each aspect of the treatment space has been carefully considered to create a healing space, from the calming relaxation room to the herbal tea blend for each of the treatment states (for stillness, love or joy) served upon arrival.

Emma Blunt Visits Not Just Blond: A Hair Studio Built On Attention https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/emma-blunt-visits-not-just-blond-a-hair-studio-built-on-attention/ Tue, 24 Mar 2026 16:21:18 +0000 https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/?p=109909 Containerville isn’t the sort of place you stumble into by accident. Tucked behind the main road, just off the canal at 1 Emma Street in Hackney Wick, its cluster of converted containers feels slightly separate from the rest of London — practical, creative, a little rough around the edges in a way that makes the spaces inside feel intentional rather than styled.

Not Just Blond occupies one of these units — a small hair (and soon to be wellness) studio founded by Daniela and Domenico, built around just a few chairs. From the outside, it looks modest; inside, it feels deliberate. It’s immediately clear that the scale is the point. There’s no background noise from other clients, no rows of multiple mirrors, no sense of being moved along. Just soft light, a place to sit, and a space that feels clear in its purpose.

Daniela, co-owner and head stylist greeted me as though I’d been coming for years. Tea appeared without much fuss, and within minutes we were talking — not just about hair, but about life, work, the usual small threads that make a conversation feel real. It didn’t feel like a consultation in the formal sense, but the important questions were all there: how I wear my hair day to day, how much effort I realistically put into it (the realities of my travel schedule play a big part here), what I like, what I don’t, what I’m hoping for without quite knowing how to describe it.

Daniela explains her approach simply: “Listening to a client’s lifestyle and how they want to feel is just as important as how they want their hair to look.” She speaks with the calm certainty of someone who has spent years observing what works — noting face shape, natural texture, skin tone, and the level of maintenance someone is genuinely willing to commit to.

I had arrived feeling that my hair was fine but uninspired — slightly dull, lacking softness, not quite sitting right. We talked about keeping things natural: brightness without obvious contrast, movement without heavy layering, something that would still feel like me.

Daniela’s approach centres on working with what’s already there. “I normally work respecting the client’s natural base, always trying to achieve a natural look with dimension rather than strong colour that becomes difficult to maintain,” she explains. “Using something that grows softly after months.”

That idea – hair that still makes sense as time passes – felt refreshing in a world of instant transformations.

The story of how Not Just Blond came to exist is rooted in persistence rather than a single moment. Domenico explains that from the beginning, they knew they wanted to build something together, though the exact shape wasn’t clear. “We wanted to open a salon built around client experience — something exclusive for Daniela’s clientele and something that could evolve,” he says.

The search for a location proved challenging until an unexpected discovery. While visiting a tattoo artist, Domenico found himself in Containerville and immediately recognised its potential. He had long been drawn to compact living spaces — “tiny containers” as he describes them — and saw the setting as a natural fit. He went home and told Daniela he had found the place.

The name followed its own path. After exploring several options, they settled on Not Just Blond — a phrase that carries both humour and intention. “It represents that it’s not just about appearance,” Domenico says. “It’s about personality, depth and creativity.” Importantly, it also signals that the studio works across all hair colours and types, despite what the name might suggest at first glance.

As we talked, it became clear that the one-to-one structure evolved organically. “We realised clients valued intimacy and personal attention,” Domenico explains. “So we built the experience around that — consultation, service, conversation.”

He describes the studio’s philosophy simply: “Calm. Personal. Private.”

Back in the chair, Daniela began working with quiet concentration. Without the background noise of a larger salon, every movement felt considered. Conversation flowed easily — sometimes animated, sometimes companionable in its pauses.

At a certain point, I found myself saying something I rarely say: “do what you think is best”. The trust felt natural rather than dramatic — built through conversation rather than persuasion.

Daniela speaks about inspirational images with a practical mindset. “I reflect inspiration into something personal,” she says. “Not all looks are suitable for everybody — honesty is important.” Her focus remains on creating something that suits the individual rather than replicating an idea.

As the colour developed, we spoke about maintenance and the realities of keeping hair healthy. Daniela emphasises consistency over quick fixes. “Using the right products makes a huge difference,” she says. “I always guide clients when it comes to aftercare at home.”

Product choice is another area where intention shows. The studio works with Davines, a B-Corp brand known for its plant-based formulations and environmental focus. Domenico notes that sustainability is something they are always looking to improve – it sits at the forefront of their thinking, with small decisions made consciously day to day.

Between steps, Domenico spoke about the broader vision for Not Just Blond. They are preparing to open a treatment space next door (Not Just Beauty) that will introduce services such as Japanese head spa rituals, relaxation treatments and red light therapy. The aim is to connect beauty with wellbeing in a way that feels integrated rather than separate. The brand – NJB – clearly has room to grow. “We’ve always wanted to expand into spaces that connect beauty with wellness and mental health,” he says. “It’s a multi-sensory experience — calming and restorative.”

As Daniela moved into the cut, the focus shifted to shape and movement. She worked carefully, refining rather than reshaping, creating softness through subtle adjustments. Watching in the mirror, I could see the logic of each decision — nothing excessive, nothing rushed. When she finished drying my hair, the result felt immediately right. There was brightness without harshness, softness without loss of structure. Running my fingers through it, I noticed how smooth it felt — lighter, healthier, more natural.

It’s subtle – not just the appearance, but the way you carry yourself afterwards.

Before leaving, we spoke briefly about the community that has formed around the studio. Domenico describes Not Just Blond as a place where connections develop — clients from different creative fields meeting, conversations continuing, collaborations emerging.

Stepping back into the yard at Containerville, the late afternoon light caught the metal edges of the containers, and the hum of activity continued around me. I paused briefly by a window, catching sight of my reflection — hair falling easily, brighter than when I arrived.

There’s a straightforward honesty to what Daniela and Domenico have created: a studio built on attention, conversation, and the belief that care should feel personal rather than procedural. It’s a model that relies less on scale and more on intention — something increasingly rare, and quietly compelling.

London Surgeon Dr Mark Tam Sets FUE Hair Transplant World Record https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/london-surgeon-dr-mark-tam-sets-fue-hair-transplant-world-record/ Fri, 13 Mar 2026 18:01:09 +0000 https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/?p=109582 Award-winning hair transplant surgeon Dr Mark Tam has achieved official world record recognition from the World Record Certification Agency (WRCA) for performing a fully manual 5,005 graft Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) hair transplant in a single surgical session, completed in one day, using a 0.75 mm FUE extraction punch.

The state-of-the-art surgical techniques used make this record-breaking surgery particularly significant. Every graft was manually extracted using an ultra-fine FUE punch, followed by manual incision and implantation. Dr Tam’s new world record has now been formally verified by WRCA, an international organisation that independently validates record-breaking achievements using a formal evidence-based review process.

The record-breaking procedure took place in November 2025 at Dr Tam’s Harley Street clinic in London. The 27-year-old male patient was diagnosed with Norwood Scale Level 3 hair loss, primarily affecting the frontal hairline and temple points. He arrived at the clinic at 5:15 am, and the surgical procedure continued throughout the day until completion at 11:45 pm. During the surgery, grafts were manually extracted from donor areas at the back and sides of the patient’s scalp and transplanted to restore the hairline and temple regions.

In total, the procedure resulted in the transplantation of 5,005 grafts, comprising 1,238 single hair follicular units, 3,396 double hair follicular units, and 371 triple hair follicular units, equating to 9,143 individual hairs transplanted during the single surgical session.

Dr Tam focuses on achieving high-quality hair restoration with ultra-high-density placement while protecting the long-term sustainability of the donor area. Larger FUE punches can make it easier to extract more than 5,000 grafts in a session, but Dr Tam uses much smaller punch tools to minimise trauma, reduce scarring, and preserve donor density. This approach, with the entire extraction process performed manually, increases technical difficulty, requires more time, and greater surgical accuracy.

Dr Mark Tam said:

“This world record represents a significant milestone for my surgical team and me and for the advancement of high-quality FUE hair restoration. Achieving the transplantation of more than 5,000 grafts in a single day using a 0.75 mm FUE punch required meticulous planning, surgical precision and a highly experienced team working together throughout a very long day.”

Hair transplantation using the FUE technique has become the dominant surgical method for hair restoration globally, accounting for most procedures performed by hair transplant surgeons worldwide. However, most surgeries typically involve significantly fewer grafts, with average cases transplanting around 2,000 to 3,000 grafts.

Although cases with larger graft numbers have occasionally been reported internationally, many of these procedures involved using pen-like extraction and implantation devices, robotic systems, or multiple surgical sessions over several days. In contrast, Dr Tam’s record was achieved with fully manual FUE extraction, manual incision creation, and manual graft implantation within a single day’s surgery. This represents the largest verified number of grafts transplanted in one day using manual FUE extraction with a 0.75 mm punch.

Dr Tam added:

“The achievement of a world record is not just about numbers. It reflects the experience of my surgical team, the efficiency of our workflow, and our continued focus on performing high-quality hair restoration while protecting the donor area for the long term. It shows that it is possible to achieve very high graft numbers without compromising quality, surgical standards or donor sustainability, to give a patient the very best possible result with ultra-high-density and natural-looking hair. I want to say a big thank you to my entire clinical team who worked incredibly hard on that day, and of course, to our patient for placing his trust in us.”

Known for his meticulous, artisan approach to superior hair restoration and his pursuit of ultra-high-density, natural-looking results, Dr Tam implants more grafts per centimetre square for a softer look. His work is defined by the use of his proprietary Treatment Area Mapping and Measurements (TAM+M) method, so he can precisely calculate graft numbers to ensure optimal density, the IDEAL Technique for precise and regenerative FUE surgical techniques, including partial FUE and individually separated hair follicles with custom-designed surgical instrumentation that prioritise long-term preservation of the donor area.

With nearly two decades of experience, several awards, and now a world record, Dr Mark Tam delivers a highly personalised surgical experience for patients seeking world-class hair restoration results, including large area and high graft number transplants.

Luxuria interviews Dr Mark Tam, hair transplant surgeon https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/luxuria-interviews-dr-mark-tam-hair-transplant-surgeon/ Fri, 13 Mar 2026 17:46:21 +0000 https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/?p=109191
We’re delighted to welcome Dr Mark Tam, an award-winning London hair transplant surgeon renowned for his expertise in natural hairline restoration and patient-centred care. With a reputation for precision, artistry, and honest guidance, he joins us to share insights into his approach, experience, and the evolving field of hair restoration.

How would you describe your approach to hairline design and patient consultation?

First and foremost, every patient is different; every hairline I create is tailored to the individual, and every patient is given the opportunity to input into the process, without rushing, and with a focus on custom design.

My approach is collaborative, working with each patient to address their hair loss or hair thinning concerns to create a forward-thinking treatment plan that achieves their specific goals. I guide this process during the consultation using my clinical judgement and a deep understanding of hairline design. My patients will look at themselves in the mirror every day, so it’s important that whatever we create together feels right for them, too. Some prefer a lower hairline; others want it slightly higher. Some are very conscious of their forehead height. Some favour a straighter shape to their hairline; others want a softer contour or a subtle peak.

In my early days as a qualified hair transplant surgeon, I did not strive to specialise in hairline transformations for receding hairlines, but treating more and more complex cases, often deemed too challenging by others, allowed me to learn, improve, and innovate, and I have devoted many years to developing the IDEAL technique using high-density follicular unit extraction and placement methods that set me apart within the hair transplant specialty.

The key during the patient consultation is dialogue; a good hair transplant surgeon will not offer one-size-fits-all templates. Working jointly, I take time to explore expectations, assess their hair loss pattern, accurately measure the treatment area, calculate graft requirements, and review their donor viability. Ultimately, we design a hairline that I think will suit them, look natural, and continue to enhance their appearance as they age. It is a journey we go on together.

What first sparked your interest in medicine, and as a consequence, led you into hair restoration?

I was initially drawn to study medicine because the science fascinated me. Similarly, I wanted to do something that would help people; it goes without saying that it gives you a good feeling when you can make a difference in someone’s life.

I come from a family with a background in hair since the 1950s, predominantly wig-making and barbering, so as the third generation, it’s probable that hair restoration is in my DNA somewhere. After exploring various areas of medicine and gaining my medical degree, I chose to qualify in hair transplantation. It’s a discipline that fits well with my personality type, my inherent skills, including precision and attention to detail, and my endurance; you need a lot of patience to do what I do.

What advice would you give someone considering their first hair transplant?

Anyone considering undergoing a hair transplant procedure really must do their homework. Research (and more research) is their primary task. Find out what is involved with different types of hair transplant surgery, including Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE), understand the skills and qualifications required to do it, learn why your donor area is important and must be carefully and sustainably harvested for transplantation, plus why accurate measurements and hair density are vital to achieving a natural look after hair transplant. Speak to lots of clinics, ask lots of questions, make sure you see a surgeon and not a salesperson, and don’t be tempted by too-good-to-be-true promises. Cheap deals on small graft numbers and ‘black market’ practices are a real problem, both in the UK and abroad. Organisations like the British Association of Hair Restoration Surgery (BAHRS) and the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) have launched consumer campaigns to explain the dangers and how these deals can leave you with botched results, which can be expensive, if not impossible to correct.

For those already experiencing noticeable hair loss, my second piece of advice is to protect your native hair ahead of any surgical procedure. Several anti-hair loss medications can be prescribed to stabilise and slow down hair loss, which gives you more time for your all-important research. You should find a qualified hair transplant surgeon who not only shares your vision for your hair restoration but who can also deliver. Find someone who can give you a natural-looking outcome – hair you can run your fingers through without it looking sparse and see-through, and who can minimise scarring in the donor area at the back of your head, so you can have the hairstyle that you want going forward.

What trends or innovations in hair restoration are you most excited about?

I have never been a follower of fashions or trends; I prefer to innovate myself, through experience and ongoing learning. Being a qualified hair transplant surgeon gives you a foundation to build upon, to develop stand-out skills and expertise, and not by copying what’s popular. For me, this has included developing the IDEAL technique, using custom-made surgical instrumentation, smaller FUE extraction punches, and ultra-high-density placement.

What excites me most is seeing hair restoration become recognised as a true medical speciality, rather than a short-lived career choice or a ‘side hustle’ for medical doctors. When I began practising almost two decades ago, it was not always taken seriously, but today the field has evolved into one that demands real expertise and craftsmanship. That shift toward higher standards and greater professional respect is a very positive development for both surgeons and patients.

How does your team support patients before, during, and after surgery?

My team, including clinical technicians, operates as a well-oiled machine and is directly involved in patient care; we often spend over 10 hours together during a surgical day.

Patients have direct access to me throughout their hair transformation journey; I don’t employ patient advisors or sales reps. I personally carry out all consultation appointments and pre-surgical checks. I perform the treatment – graft extraction and recipient site preparation. Meanwhile, my technicians prepare the grafts by examining and sorting them under a microscope, individually separating hair follicles when necessary, safely storing them ready for transplantation, and undertaking graft placement into the prepared recipient sites. I remain continually involved in follow-up care and build long-term relationships over several years. Many of my patients stay in touch and regularly update me on their progress and life events. Knowing they can speak directly to me helps maintain continuity and ensures they feel supported at every stage. That ongoing connection is also what motivates me to come into the clinic each day.

What do you find most rewarding about your work?

Seeing the transformation in my patients is the most rewarding thing for me, and the change that goes far beyond the hair restoration result itself. The impact on someone’s psychological health and well-being cannot be underestimated, and when a patient tells you the treatment has made them feel great about themselves, improved their social interactions and confidence, it is incredibly fulfilling. It is also very meaningful when patients feel confident enough to recommend you and tell friends or family that they had a hair transplant, because it shows how positive the experience has been for them.

How do you ensure personalised care for each patient’s unique goals?

Personalised care is about not rushing. I spend time with my patients at each consultation, and by that, I mean quality time; I’m not clock watching. I dedicate a surgical day exclusively to one patient. Sadly, the private hair transplant sector has become more focused on a ‘time is money’ model, with strict appointment slots and patients going in and out. Like a Michelin-starred meal or a piece of haute couture, I believe that you cannot rush when designing a hairline to achieve a patient’s unique goals, addressing their exact pattern of hair loss and their specific donor viability to build an ultra-high-density, natural result. From the very start, I like to engage directly with my patients, even before the day they meet me; this is why I offer a complimentary pre-assessment to get to know their goals and let them know their suitability for treatment. Together, we can get a sense of whether you are ready to go on a long journey; this must work for both of us.

Outside of your clinical work, what do you enjoy doing to unwind and recharge?

I am guilty of having a terrible work-life balance. I think when something is a passion, it can become all-consuming and be difficult to step away entirely to unwind and recharge. You are constantly reflecting on your clinical work and thinking of ways to squeeze even more innovation and improvements out of your technique and approaches. I never stop learning and developing, and as a craftsman, it’s a struggle to ‘down tools’ and take a break from it. I do enjoy spending time with my family and like to try many of the different culinary experiences you can find in London.

Looking back at your career so far, what moment has made you feel most proud?

Looking back, one of the moments that makes me most proud is establishing myself as a hair transplant surgeon on Harley Street in London before the age of 30, and I’m still practising there seventeen years later. Hair restoration is a field with enormous depth, and it is something you can dedicate an entire career to mastering.

My achievements, including receiving several coveted awards for the best UK hair restoration service and best hair transplant surgeon in London, and most recently gaining an accredited world record for a FUE procedure with 5,005 grafts performed in one day are certainly special, but the real pride comes from continuing to grow within the profession that I love and changing the lives of so many patients by restoring their hairline, and confidence.

Edward James London: Three Glamorous Hours for My Hair https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/edward-james-london-three-glamorous-hours-for-my-hair/ Tue, 10 Mar 2026 20:11:09 +0000 https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/?p=109357 “And what hedge have you been dragged through this morning?” It’s the question my family most often greets me with when I return from walking the dog.

To say my hair is the bane of my life might sound dramatic, but sadly it’s not far from the truth. The slightest breeze or hint of rain and whatever styling effort I made that morning may as well never have happened.

So when the opportunity for a ‘hair makeover’ at Edward James London landed in my inbox, wild horses couldn’t have kept me away. Two weeks later, I was stepping through the salon doors, quietly hoping for nothing short of a transformation.

From the moment I stepped into Edward James London in just one of his four salons, I knew I was somewhere special. The salon itself is absolutely stunning, glamorous, elegant and beautifully designed, with interiors that make you feel as though you’ve walked into a luxury members’ club rather than a hair salon. Every detail of the décor feels carefully considered, creating a space that is both sophisticated and welcoming. It’s the kind of place where you instantly feel a little more fabulous just by being there.

The reception team deserve special praise because they set the tone for the entire experience. From the moment I arrived, they were warm and professional. Within minutes, I felt completely pampered.  I was handed a glass of bubbles to start my appointment in the most civilised way possible, and over the course of my three-hour transformation, it was topped up as required!

Before we even got into the consultation, I was treated to the most heavenly pre-treatment head and shoulder massage. This was such a thoughtful touch and instantly melted away any tension. It’s these small details that make the experience feel exceptionally unique.

The consultation itself was incredibly thorough and refreshingly honest. There was absolutely no rushing, just genuine expertise and attention to detail. The colour analysis was very precise, ensuring that any decisions made would work perfectly with my natural tones.

We then moved on to discussing extensions and selecting the perfect shade of Beauty Works extensions. I loved how carefully the colour was chosen, not just a rough match, but a beautifully blended colour that would look completely natural once applied, with a couple of warm shades added in to increase the natural tones.

The extension application process was meticulous and incredibly professional. Every step felt calm, considered and carried out with skill.

And then, of course, there is Edward James himself, the true magic behind it all. His talent is obvious the moment he begins working. I arrived with a blunt, jaw-length bob and very fine hair, and Edward immediately understood what would work, and just as importantly, what wouldn’t. My initial thought was to grow out my hair to allow the grey to shine through, and to try a pixie cut.  Very gently, Edward advised against this, and he was right. I’m not ready to go grey, and my fine hair would go flat to my head;  I don’t have a Kris Jenner glam squad on hand 24/7!.

What I appreciated most was his honesty. Rather than suggesting dramatically long extensions that might look unrealistic, he focused on creating something far more flattering and sophisticated. He carefully managed my expectations and designed a look that enhanced my natural hair rather than overwhelming it.

The final result is exactly what I had hoped for: luxurious, natural, and beautifully blended. The extensions add fullness, movement and softness while still looking completely believable. My blunt bob has been transformed into something that feels luscious and elevated, but still entirely me.

Three hours, expert artistry, glamorous surroundings, incredible service and a couple of glasses of bubbles later, I walked out feeling like the very best version of myself, grinning from ear to ear!

Edward James London is not just a hair appointment; it’s a full experience. And I cannot recommend it highly enough.

February 2026, London – Introducing an artisan at the heart of pioneering hair restoration approaches, Dr Mark Tam offers more than a generic solution for a receding hairline, providing natural-looking, sustainable hair transplant options for men in their twenties, thirties, and beyond. He delivers a bespoke, personalised experience with world-class surgical techniques and second-to-none hair restoration results that elicit a wow factor. Many men in their early 20s and 30s experience the emotional impact of premature hair loss, often with it starting in their teens. A receding hairline at a young age is common, and a consequence of hereditary male pattern baldness, or androgenetic alopecia, characterised by thinning and loss, or hair growth stopping along the hairline caused by the hormonal impact of dihydrotestosterone related hair follicle shrinkage. Hair loss is unique to the individual; the solution should be equally unique and ensure the best quality outcome, using the most precise and perfected techniques.

Dr Mark Tam’s approach uses accuracy, innovation, and trust methodology, with attention to detail, custom-designed, precise surgical instrumentation, and an unwavering passion for achieving ultra-high-density hair restoration with personalised services. Even complex hair transplants requiring 3,000 to 4,000+ follicular unit grafts can be carried out safely and efficiently in one day alongside his supporting clinical team. Sustainable donor area harvesting and preservation avoid visible scarring and give the freedom to choose a short hairstyle during and after restoration.

The Japanese call it Shokunin – an artisan who immerses themselves daily in their craft, becoming a master, and having a profound connection with their work. Award-winning hair transplant surgeon Dr Mark Tam channels this Shokunin spirit, striving for perfection as a craftsman in hair restoration. His knowledge, amassed over almost two decades, has honed his expertise, and he addresses complex cases often rejected by lesser professionals.

Hair transplant surgery with Dr Mark Tam is a unique, tailored experience. With The Tam Experience, everyone is a VIP. Consultations, surgical days, and all ongoing care are one-to-one with Dr Mark Tam. The clinic in Harley Street, London, a world-renowned location and centre of medical excellence, operates at the highest clinical care standards and expertise. The day of surgery is exclusive. Dr Tam is dedicated and focused, performing all the hair transplantation work himself, alongside a hand-picked team of specialist technical assistants.

What sets Dr Mark Tam apart

A natural-looking restoration of the hairline and temple points is achieved using the IDEAL Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) technique, which combines pioneering regenerative and minimally scarring methods, such as partial FUE and individually separated grafts. The result is a superior, long-lasting hairline transplant with greater thickness and density, and less transparency at the hairline.

Using Treatment Area Mapping and Measurements (TAM+M), Dr Tam precisely and accurately calculates the number of follicular unit grafts and hairs needed for transplantation, ensuring enough grafts are harvested from the donor area to avoid sparse outcomes. No guessing, estimates, or generic hair transplant packages.

Dr Tam uses smaller follicular extraction punches and regenerative harvesting methods to optimise graft collection, causing less scalp damage, leaving minimal signs of intervention in the donor area, and sustainably protecting it for future use. Individually separating multi-hair follicles makes the best use of all viable grafts.

Implanting more grafts per centimetre square achieves a softer, ultra-high-density result. The pioneering techniques used require more time and smaller, hand-cut surgical instrumentation for greater precision at high magnification. This increases the density of transplanted hair while reducing trauma to both the donor and recipient areas compared with conventional methods.

Dr Mark Tam’s services are much sought after and include international patients. He performs sixty surgeries a year to maintain his focus and precision; great things should never be rushed.
