Marriott Hotels announces the opening of two distinctive properties in the scenic Herdade dos Salgados region: Algarve Marriott Salgados Golf Resort & Conference Centre and Marriott Residences Salgados Resort, Algarve. Set against the backdrop of Portugal’s southern coast, these accommodations blend contemporary design with authentic local character while upholding Marriott Hotels legacy of attentive hospitality.

The resorts represent a significant addition to Marriott International’s portfolio in Portugal, catering to travellers who value reliability, consistency, and opportunities for enriching experiences in one of Europe’s most captivating coastal destinations. The property is managed by Highgate, a leading global real estate investment and hospitality management company with a strong presence in Portugal, leveraging deep market insight and extensive experience across key European markets.

“The essence of hospitality lies in the details,” notes Pedro Neto, General Manager of Algarve Marriott Salgados Golf Resort & Conference Centre. “Our approach centres on understanding what matters to each guest and creating moments that resonate well beyond their stay with us.”

Modern Design and Premium Accommodations

Algarve Marriott Salgados Golf Resort & Conference Centre features 228 thoughtfully appointed guest rooms and suites designed with Marriott Hotels’ signature aesthetic that balances contemporary elegance with local influences. The interior design incorporates natural materials, soothing colour palettes inspired by the Algarve coastline, and subtle Portuguese design elements that create a sense of place while maintaining the modern, timeless quality that Marriott guests expect.

At the heart of the property is Marriott Hotels’ signature Greatroom – an innovative, open-concept space that transforms throughout the day to meet guests’ evolving needs. The Greatroom serves as a versatile hub for socialising, working, dining, and relaxing, featuring flexible seating arrangements, integrated technology, and thoughtful lighting design that creates distinct zones while maintaining a sense of openness and connection.

“The Greatroom concept reflects our understanding of how today’s travellers move through their day,” explains Neto. “It’s a space that adapts to their needs rather than asking them to adapt to fixed environments. Whether hosting an impromptu meeting, enjoying a cocktail, or simply taking in the surroundings, guests find the Greatroom responds intuitively to what they want.”

Resort Facilities: Opportunities for Enriching Experiences

The property offers four outdoor pools – two designed for adults and two for children – set within thoughtfully landscaped gardens that showcase native plantings. The culinary programme spans four distinct dining venues that invite guests to explore both local and global flavours:

• KAN.JO: A fine dining restaurant where creativity meets tradition, in a truly vibrant celebration of Asian cuisine. Inspired by the Japanese concept of emotion, the restaurant offers a dynamic dining experience, featuring bold flavours and refined technique. In a sophisticated and contemporary setting, each dish is an artistic expression, built on a “blank canvas” of fresh ingredients and daring combinations. KAN.JO is more than a meal; it’s a journey of taste, excellence, and discovery.

• In Season: A relaxed buffet restaurant where fresh flavours and the rhythm of nature come together for an unforgettable entertainment experience. Inspired by the beauty of each season, the menu celebrates the finest locally sourced ingredients and every dish tells a story of freshness, sustainability, and bold, vibrant tastes that awaken the senses.

• Amara: Amara by the pool is a dreamlike retreat offering a refined poolside dining experience. Inspired by the Venetian Ciccheti tradition, guests can enjoy small, flavorful plates made to share or savour alone, crafted with the finest seasonal ingredients. As the night falls, AMARA Terrazza transforms into an elegant Italian escape, inspired by the charm of the Italian Riviera, and the menu invites you to indulge in multiple small plates paired with an exceptional selection of Portuguese and signature wines in a true celebration of flavours, seasons and convivial dining.

• Aperitivo 18: With a carefully curated selection of speciality coffees, Mediterranean-inspired meals, artisanal pastries, Portuguese wine, craft beers and signature cocktails, this sophisticated Greatroom bar is the perfect space to gather, indulge and celebrate – any time of the day.

Beyond the resort grounds, guests have immediate access to enriching cultural and recreational experiences that showcase the authentic Algarve. The property is steps away from the iconic Praia dos Salgados beach and the ecologically significant Lagoa dos Salgados Nature Reserve, where guided birdwatching tours offer insights into the region’s biodiversity. The adjacent championship golf course provides both challenging play and stunning coastal views for golf enthusiasts of all levels.

“Our guests seek experiences that blend relaxation with discovery,” notes Neto. “Whether it’s learning about local winemaking traditions through curated tastings, exploring coastal pathways with our naturalist guides, or simply connecting with the rhythm of Portuguese coastal life, we’ve created pathways to authentic engagement with this remarkable region.”

State-of-the-Art Conference Centre

The property’s conference centre represents a significant advancement for business hospitality in the Algarve region, offering more than 9000 square metres of versatile meeting and event space. The facility includes:

• An auditorium with a capacity to seat 1596 people
• A main ballroom with capacity for up to 800 delegates in theatre-style seating, divisible into three separate spaces
• Six additional meeting rooms ranging from 50 to 150 square metres
• A dedicated business centre with administrative support services
• Outdoor event spaces, including terraces and gardens that can accommodate up to 1,000 guests for receptions

All meeting spaces feature state-of-the-art audiovisual technology, including integrated 4K projection systems, professional sound equipment, and high-density Wi-Fi capable of supporting up to 1,000 simultaneous connections.

“The conference facilities were designed to meet the evolving needs of today’s business events,” explains Neto. “From intimate strategy sessions to large-scale international conferences, our spaces adapt seamlessly while maintaining an atmosphere of understated elegance. The technology infrastructure ensures seamless presentations, hybrid meeting capabilities, and robust connectivity that business travellers expect from Marriott properties worldwide”.

Marriott Residences Salgados Resort Algarve: Comfort with Premium Service

Nearby, Marriott Residences Salgados Resort, Algarve, provides 192 spacious accommodations ranging from one to three bedrooms. Each residence features generous balconies, comfortable living areas, and well-appointed kitchens ideal for extended stays. The property includes ten outdoor pools, two distinctive restaurants, including the charming Goa Café, a welcoming bar, and a curated programme of seasonal activities.

The design aesthetic at the Residences balances contemporary comfort with thoughtful nods to Portuguese architectural traditions. Clean lines, natural materials, and a neutral palette create serene environments that serve as perfect canvases for guests to create their own experiences, while subtle design elements – including locally-sourced textiles and curated artwork – maintain a sense of authentic place.

“We’ve designed these residences to offer both autonomy and service,” says Joana Pinteus, General Manager of Marriott Residences Salgados Resort, Algarve. “We want each guest to feel they have found their place in the Algarve — a space to create meaningful and unforgettable memories, whether they’re here for business or leisure.”

Additional amenities include tennis courts, mini-golf, volleyball and football facilities, a kids club for children aged 3 to 12, and both indoor and outdoor fitness areas. The property also facilitates access to the beach, water sports, sailing excursions, and guided nature experiences at the neighbouring Lagoa dos Salgados.

Wellness Hub Salgados: Integration of Wellbeing

Shared between the properties, the Wellness Hub Salgados offers a comprehensive approach to wellbeing in a true haven of Wellness for body, mind and spirit. From locally sourced and inspired therapies to exquisite aromatherapy and recovery services, the Wellness Hub Salgados allows you to explore an amazing range of wellness options that target physical and mental wellbeing.

The facility includes a heated indoor pool with therapeutic water jets and chromotherapy, a jacuzzi, a sauna, a steam room, contrast showers, a professional-grade LifeFitness gym, a recovery room powered by Hyperice, a golf recovery lounge with compression and percussion therapies, and a make-up studio for events. Treatment rooms provide spaces for personalised wellness programmes that blend traditional techniques with contemporary approaches.

“Our wellness philosophy acknowledges that meaningful experiences often begin with personal renewal,” notes Neto. “We’ve created environments where technology enhances rather than intrudes, allowing guests to connect with themselves and their surroundings in ways that feel both novel and necessary.”

Positioned between the Atlantic Ocean and the protected landscapes of the Salgados Lagoon, these new properties strengthen Marriott’s presence in Portugal while establishing a refined standard for both leisure and business hospitality in the Algarve. The developments reflect an understanding that contemporary travellers seek authentic connections to destinations while expecting thoughtful, anticipatory service that honours their individual preferences.

A new era of wellness in London: Wellverse fitness ecosystem https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/a-new-era-of-wellness-in-london-wellverse-fitness-ecosystem/ Sat, 25 Apr 2026 07:29:55 +0000 https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/?p=110664 A new benchmark in London’s wellness landscape is set to launch on 20 April 2026 with the arrival of Wellverse: a first-of-its-kind, fully integrated wellness ecosystem designed to meet every version of you, every day.

Bringing together some of London’s leading fitness brands – Frame, FLOW and ROWBOTS – spanning high-energy, expressive training, reformer Pilates and yoga, and performance-driven strength, Wellverse unites the capital’s most dynamic fitness concepts under one seamless booking platform.

Accessible via a new website and app, the Wellverse Membership unlocks unlimited access across the seven London locations.

A Complete Wellness Ecosystem

Wellverse has been built to remove friction from the fitness experience, offering members the freedom to move between disciplines, locations and moods – all under one membership, and across over 50 class types.

At the heart of Wellverse is a portfolio of distinct brands, each offering its own approach to movement:

FLOW delivers a considered, low-impact yet results-driven programme, centred on infrared mat Pilates and yoga, reformer Pilates, dynamic and slow flow yoga, barre, and strength and sculpt classes – designed to build strength, improve mobility and support long-term wellbeing.

ROWBOTS takes a more performance-led approach, built around its signature rowing classes – 50-minute classes that combine the rower and floor-based training in structured intervals designed to build strength, focus, and momentum – alongside dedicated strength training sessions. Underpinned by its ‘Machine Mindset’, the concept places equal emphasis on physical performance and mental conditioning, stripping movement back to its most powerful and efficient form.

Frame, known for its energy and creativity, offers a diverse and expressive schedule spanning dance cardio, rebounding, music video classes, strength training, deep release reformer, hip-opening flows, mandala flow yoga, candlelit yin yoga, sound baths and anxiety release yoga, delivering everything from high-intensity workouts to restorative, feel-good movement.

Completing the ecosystem, MUMHOOD at Frame offers dedicated pre- and postnatal fitness, including Pilates, yoga and reformer, ensuring movement evolves with every stage of life – because at Wellverse, wellness doesn’t pause for motherhood.

The Membership

The Wellverse Membership is priced from £120 to £225 per month, offering up to 31 classes across all studios and concepts within the Wellverse ecosystem. Designed with flexibility in mind, memberships operate on a one-month rolling basis with no joining fees, allowing members to cancel with 30 days’ notice ahead of their next billing cycle. For those looking to commit longer-term, an annual option is also available, offering 12 months for the price of 10 when purchasing the full year upfront.

To mark the launch, Wellverse will also introduce a two-week “Enter the Wellverse” taster pass priced at £75, offering up to 14 classes across the ecosystem.

ROWBOTS Residency: A New Chapter in Hybrid Training

Launching in Summer 2026, after the membership debut, ROWBOTS will introduce their first-ever residency at Frame King’s Cross. The residency will feature a dedicated ROWBOTS class programme, bringing its signature strength-led, performance-focused training to a wider audience.

A New Way to Experience Wellness

Wellverse is more than a membership – it is a fully connected approach to movement, designed around the realities of modern life. Whether seeking intensity, recovery, community or calm, members can move fluidly between disciplines without restriction. This is not just fitness. It’s an ecosystem built around how people really live, train and feel.

Greg Zimmerman, Co-Founder, Wellverse, comments:
“Wellverse was created to solve a problem we kept coming back to – fitness in London is incredible, but it’s fragmented. People are forced to choose between disciplines, locations or memberships, when in reality, they want variety and flexibility. Wellverse removes that friction entirely, giving people one place to access everything, and the freedom to move however they want, whenever they want, across best-in-class brands.”

Sam Green, Co-Founder, Wellverse, adds:

“What’s been missing from the industry is a system that reflects real behaviour. People don’t train the same way every day – sometimes you want intensity, sometimes recovery, sometimes something completely new. Wellverse is designed around that mindset, bringing different modalities, communities, and experiences into one ecosystem so people can build a routine that is both sustainable and adaptable over time.”

Enter The Wellverse

Locations include: Frame (Victoria, Shoreditch, Angel, King’s Cross, Hammersmith), FLOW (Tottenham Street), ROWBOTS (Fitzrovia)

Membership pricing:
Wellverse offers four membership tiers: 6 classes (£120), 8 classes

(£152), 12 classes (£195) and 31 classes (£225) per month – each

Eric Paskel Returns to Continuum Sporting Club & Spa https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/eric-paskel-returns-to-continuumsporting-club-spa/ Wed, 08 Apr 2026 11:00:30 +0000 https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/?p=110283 Continuum, South Florida’s premier resort-style oceanfront condominium residences in Miami Beach, welcomed the return of an internationally acclaimed talent from the world of yoga for a special series of events at the Sporting Club and Spa.

As the dawn of Spring arrived, a four-day series of workshops for holistic yoga enthusiasts was introduced by acclaimed instructor Eric Paskel, from April 1—4.  Developed for all physical levels, Eric’s signature brand of yoga is designed for individuals to reimagine their outlook on wellness and rediscover their own relationship between mind and body through the creation of four guiding principles led by Eric’s own themes for each session. The initial introduction of his four-day series of workshops held at the Continuum Sporting Club and Spa was so popular and sought after by homeowners at the condominium property that management requested the return of the specialist for a second year.

The most unique characteristic of Eric’s classes is the personalised approach given to each individual, whether a newer student or more experienced enthusiast, regardless of age or shape, to ensure each person feels special and observed. Every yoga class includes sun salutations, lunges, twists, side bends, back bends, forward bends, weight-bearing, and seated postures interwoven throughout each 75-minute session.

Eric’s Whole Body Flow class focuses on the complete posture, from toes to temples, ensuring lots of movement and lots of sweat—acting as a one-stop shop for the body.  His Balance class is about a steady mind, as focus is given on an array of balancing postures that calibrate the senses. The Upper Body class focuses on the basic postures and movements that build upper body power and tone. Eric explores arm balances and lots more with drills that help build strength and awareness. The final session is about going with the flow, not needing to “know” and trusting yourself enough to feel safe and confident.

“We were delighted to welcome back such a renowned talent to the Continuum Sporting Club and Spa,” says Rishi Idnani, Managing Director at Continuum. “Eric’s expert contribution to the community’s overall wellness for the body and mind came at the perfect time. After his initial visit and series of classes at the Continuum in 2022 was such a hit with the community, we had to repeat the success due to the high demand from residents.”

Eric Paskel, MA MFCC, has been helping couples, families, and individuals to evolve for 30 years, while travelling the world leading workshops, retreats and trainings. Known for his rock ’n roll personality in the normally quiet world of yoga, Eric is an international yoga teacher, marriage, family and child counsellor, and motivational speaker. He has been a teacher of teachers since 1999, presenting at Yoga Journal Conferences, Kripalu Centre, Bhakti Yoga Fest, Wanderlust, Telluride Yoga Festival and the Southeast Yoga Festival. Eric has also taken his brand of yoga around the globe, conducting teacher trainings, retreats and workshops in Russia, Mexico, Costa Rica, India and Belize.

Corporations, including Chrysler, have enlisted Eric’s services as a motivational speaker. For over 20 years, Eric, through his private practice, has been helping clients solve their relationship and addiction problems.

Eric Paskel founded, owned and operated a family of ten yoga studios, including franchising three studios, before he sold the company in 2015. Eric has added “author” to his long list of accomplishments, with books entitled The Unf**ked Code: Transform Your Relationships from Fighting to Uniting, The Emotional Survival Kit, The Problem is You, and The Emotional Empowerment Movement: Book One.

Continuum, South Florida’s premier resort-style oceanfront residences in Miami Beach, presented the Fourth Annual Continuum Tennis Fundraiser on Saturday, March 28th, benefitting the next generation of talent and youth programming in South Florida, nationwide and across the globe.

Some of the biggest names from the tennis world joined executives from the International Tennis Hall of Fame (ITHF) and Continuum residents for a morning of practice sessions and on-court entertainment to benefit the ITHF’s Be Legendary global youth initiative. Hall of Famers and doubles legends, the Bryan Brothers, joined the former world number two-ranked player and BNP Paribas Open tournament director, Tommy Haas, to put attendees through their paces on the lavish clay courts of the Continuum Tennis Centre.

Ticket holders were invited to a pre-game breakfast on The Patio lawn, featuring a silent auction and meet-and-greet with the tennis icons, together with International Tennis Hall of Fame CEO, Dan Faber, and Executive Vice President of Revenue, Jeff Harrison. A light-hearted morning of on-court conditioning and competitive gameplay allowed participants to rotate and play with Tommy Haas and the Bryan Brothers, who each hosted a court of fun drills and games for residents to enjoy. The on-court activity was followed by a postgame lunch party and trophy presentation to winners Shelly Bressler (Most Improved Player), Lu Goldman (Best Team Player), and Isabelle Rovner (Best Put Away Shot). All participants received a gift bag of products from the event sponsor, Augustinus Bader skincare.

“Raising funds for the ITHF initiative ‘Be Legendary’ turned out to be a great time for an even better cause,” said event organiser Steven Michaelson. “My co-organiser, Stacey Cooper, and I couldn’t be prouder of the work we’ve done and look forward to doing it again next year.”

“The International Tennis Hall of Fame is incredibly grateful to Continuum and Steve Michaelson for their commitment to our Be Legendary program,” said Dan Faber. “The support from the South Florida community is essential in helping us inspire and provide opportunities for the next generation of talent, both locally and globally.”

The Wellbeing Generation: Why People Are Going Sober in the UK https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/the-wellbeing-generation-why-people-are-going-sober-in-the-uk/ Thu, 12 Feb 2026 17:08:32 +0000 https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/the-wellbeing-generation-why-people-are-going-sober-in-the-uk/ It’s no secret that the rest of the world sees the UK as a nation with a drink and drug problem.

While this stereotype may have had some basis in truth during bygone decades, today it holds far less water — and the data is beginning to back that up.

The number of people embracing sober living is rising, and while it began as a youth-led movement, there’s growing evidence that it now spans generations. So what’s driving this trend, and what forces are helping to catalyse it?

Young, Smart, and Sober

Almost a third of Gen Z Brits are non-drinkers. For Baby Boomers, that proportion sits at around 15%.

Millennials and Gen X are also increasingly sober-curious compared to their older counterparts. A few key factors are driving this shift away from alcohol. First, there’s economic pressure. Young people in particular are contending with the reality of sustained inflation and its knock-on effects on the cost of living, leaving them with less disposable income. Coupled with the fact that the average pint now costs around £5 — and closer to £7 in London — the straightforward economics of a booze-fuelled night out simply don’t add up for many.

Then there’s a changing appetite for social activities. Even as recently as the mid-2000s, socialising in person — typically at the pub or a club — was the default. Today, the rise of social media, video streaming and other digital forms of connection and entertainment make it possible to maintain a full, friend-focused social life in spaces where drink and drugs are simply not part of the equation.

Lastly, there’s the gradual but steady growth of health and fitness as a cultural priority across every generation.

Campaigns like Dry January have helped embed the message that reassessing our relationship with alcohol is worthwhile — not just physically, but socially and financially too.

The Overlooked Issues

While alcohol may have fallen out of favour with many in the UK, other controlled substances continue to find new audiences.

Most notable in recent years is the explosion in ketamine’s popularity. ONS figures show that use among the under-25s more than doubled over the past decade — a rise that has prompted campaigners to call for it to be reclassified into the more serious Class A category, and has driven a significant increase in services helping people detox from ketamine as hospital admissions linked to the substance continue to climb.

It could even be argued that the apparent rise in sober living is partly a misreading of the data. Just as ecstasy’s rise to prominence in the 1990s caused alcohol sales at clubs to collapse, we may be witnessing ketamine’s growing popularity pushing more people away from alcohol as their substance of choice — rather than toward sobriety itself.

What Next for the Wellbeing Generation?

Whether the increased interest in sober living represents a lasting cultural shift or a passing moment in a longer cycle remains to be seen. History suggests that these trends tend to ebb and flow, and it’s unlikely that the UK will abandon drink and drugs en masse any time soon.

What does seem clear, however, is that the conversation around alcohol, wellbeing, and conscious living has fundamentally changed. More people are asking questions about why they drink, not just how much — and that shift in mindset may prove more durable than any single trend. Watch the data over the next few years, and a clearer picture will emerge.

The Golf Company Africa Golf in Shaping Mauritius https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/the-golf-company-africa-golf-in-shaping-mauritius/ Thu, 12 Feb 2026 09:54:25 +0000 https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/the-golf-company-africa-shaping-mauritius-golf-from-the-ground-up/ Mauritius has earned its reputation as one of the Indian Ocean’s premier golf destinations.

Behind several of the island’s most respected courses sits a management company deeply involved in how the game is delivered, experienced and evolved.

The Golf Company Africa manages and operates some of Mauritius’ most highly regarded golf facilities: Avalon Golf Estate, Le Château Golf Course, La Réserve Golf Links and Azuri The Nine. In the latest Top 100 courses rankings, Mauritian rankings serve as a strong validation of The Golf Company’s management capability.

La Réserve Golf Links and Avalon Golf Estate occupy rankings one and two, respectively, with Le Château sitting in fifth position. Azuri the Nine is a par 3 course, and while this does not fit into the Top100 ranking criteria, it has won the World’s Best Par 3 course twice (2023 and 2025). Each is internationally recognised, each is distinct in character, and each benefits from a management model that extends well beyond day-to-day operations.

A defining feature across the portfolio is championship pedigree. Both Le Château Golf Course and La Réserve Golf Links have hosted the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open, a DP World Tour event, firmly establishing their credentials on the global stage.

Avalon Golf Estate

Set high in the south-central uplands of Mauritius’ Bois Chéri area, Avalon is a modern “mountain/inland” layout known for cooler air, big elevation swings, and wide open views that can stretch from the Grand Bassin region out toward the coast on clear days. It’s an 18-hole championship course designed by Peter Matkovich, with a reputation for being scenic and playable while still asking for smart club selection because of wind and altitude.

10 Facts About Avalon Golf Estate

• 18-hole championship golf course.
• Par 72.
• Designed by Peter Matkovich.
• Opened in 2015.
• Located in the Bois Chéri region of Mauritius.
• +- 500m above sea level (the highest place to play golf on the island).
• Surrounded by tea plantations/tea-growing fields.
• Only golf course on the island with bent grass greens.
• Practice facilities include a driving range plus multiple short-game greens (putting/chipping/pitching) and a practice bunker.

La Réserve Golf Links – “Pure Golfing Drama”

La Réserve Golf Links brings authentic links golf to the Indian Ocean. Exposed, dramatic and shaped naturally into the ground contours, it demands creativity and control. Hosting a DP World Tour event so soon after opening was a clear statement of its competitive credentials.

La Réserve certainly delivers “pure golfing drama”. The 2025 AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open saw a play-off between Ryan Gerard and Jayden Schaper, which not only delivered an exhilarating play-off, but also an incredible storyline. Gerard required a 4th-place finish or better to secure his spot in the 2026 U.S Masters. The 10,000-mile round trip proved to be well worth the jet lag as he stamped his ticket into the field.

Key Facts About La Réserve Golf Links

• 18 holes.
• Par 72.
• Co-designed by Peter Matkovich and Louis Oosthuizen.
• Positioned as the first “contemporary links” course in the Indian Ocean.
• Officially opened for play in November 2023 (ahead of the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open).
• Has panoramic ocean views.
• Located alongside a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
• Hosted the DP World Tour Mauritius Open (2023 and 2025).
• Positioned by Heritage as part of its “two-course” destination in Bel Ombre.

Le Château Golf Course

In the lush Bel Ombre estate, Le Château is a classic, parkland-style championship test routed around a 19th-century château, with mature trees and plenty of water in play. It’s widely positioned as a “must-play” Mauritius course, pairing generous-looking corridors with hazards that punish the wrong angles, especially as the wind shifts off the nearby coast and valley lines.

A past DP World Tour venue, the course is capable of hosting elite competition without sacrificing everyday enjoyment, which makes it a popular choice for the travelling golfer.

Avalon Golf Estate Mauritius: 18 Holes and Endless Memories https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/avalon-golf-estate-mauritius-nine-holes-and-endless-memories/ Mon, 09 Feb 2026 09:51:18 +0000 https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/avalon-golf-estate-mauritius-nine-holes-and-endless-memories/ If you’re looking for the moment when a holiday quietly turns into something memorable, our day at the renowned championship Avalon Golf Estate in Mauritius was exactly that.

Mauritius has earned its reputation as a go-to destination for golf lovers, with an impressive collection of world-class courses spread across the island. Even in such impressive company, Avalon Golf Estate holds its own firmly at the top. From the first tee to the final putt, this course delivered an experience that felt thoughtful, polished, and genuinely special.

We opted for the full 18 holes — it was extremely hot, so thank goodness for the buggy, which turned out to be the perfect way to fully appreciate the course while still leaving us energised rather than exhausted. Avalon Golf Estate is hilly, challenging, and beautifully designed, demanding just the right balance. It’s simply great golf, executed at a very high level.

The scenery deserves its own paragraph. Set inland, surrounded by rolling hills and lush greenery, Avalon Golf Estate offers a completely different experience from the coastal courses Mauritius is famous for. The views are wide open yet calming, with immaculate fairways cutting through the landscape. It’s the kind of place where you catch yourself pausing mid-round — not to look for your ball, but simply to take it all in.

As sports editor for Luxuria Lifestyle International, I’m not easily impressed. Yet hole after hole, Avalon Golf Estate won me over — and I was playing alongside my dad, which made it all the more special. The layout is challenging but fair, rewarding smart play and offering plenty of variety to keep all levels of golfers engaged. By the end of the round, we were already discussing which holes we’d most like to play again.

A special mention has to go to the golf buggies, which were genuinely luxurious. On a hilly course like Avalon Golf Estate, a comfortable buggy makes all the difference — and these were top-tier, smooth, spacious, and perfect for cruising between holes in the warm Mauritian summer sun.

After golf, we headed to lunch in the aptly named Magic Spoon, and once again, Avalon Golf Estate delivered. The food was delicious, relaxed, and exactly what you want after a morning on the course — good ingredients, well prepared, and served overlooking the fairways.

Hospitality truly sums up Avalon Golf Estate. From arrival to departure, the staff were warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. There’s a difference between professional service and heartfelt hospitality, and Avalon Golf Estate clearly understands it.

To round off the day, we indulged in a massage at Avalon Golf Estate’s partner wellness spa, The Bodhi Meditation Retreat, which was the perfect end to an already outstanding experience. After navigating those rolling fairways, the spa was pure bliss and beautifully run.

With so many outstanding golf courses on Mauritius, it takes something truly special to stand out. Avalon Golf Estate manages it effortlessly. Second to none in design, setting, and service, it’s a destination where golf, nature, and hospitality come together in perfect unison.

Whether you’re a serious golfer, a travelling sports journalist, or simply someone who loves discovering new places, Avalon Golf Estate is a must-visit. For us, it wasn’t just a great round of golf — it was a perfect day, start to finish.

Avalon Golf Estate occupies a commanding position in Mauritius’ central highlands https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/avalon-golf-estate-where-mauritius-reveals-its-most-elevated-game/ Mon, 26 Jan 2026 14:39:28 +0000 https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/avalon-golf-estate-where-mauritius-reveals-its-most-elevated-game/ There are golf courses you play, and then there are courses you feel. Avalon Golf Estate belongs firmly in the latter category — a rare inland sanctuary where the game unfolds against one of the most dramatic natural backdrops in the Indian Ocean.

Set high on the volcanic slopes near Grand Bassin, at around 400 metres above sea level, Avalon occupies a commanding position in Mauritius’ central highlands. Tea plantations ripple across the surrounding hillsides, mist drifts through ravines in the early morning, and — remarkably — the Indian Ocean remains visible from every one of the 18 holes. It is both grounding and exhilarating, a reminder that this is a place shaped by time, terrain and intent.

Designed by acclaimed South African architect Peter Matkovich, Avalon is often described as a player’s course — generous from the tee yet consistently engaging from start to finish. Wide landing areas invite confident swings, but elevation changes, streams, ravines and ever-shifting winds demand strategy, not brute force. It is golf that rewards thoughtfulness.

Matkovich himself captures the spirit succinctly:
“Avalon is more than just golf — it’s an experience for all of your senses, with incredible surroundings, beautifully manicured gardens and some of the most spectacular elevation changes found anywhere on the island.”

The routing is masterful. Par threes and par fives face different directions to account for the southeast trade winds, ensuring variety across the round. Among the standouts are the short par-four 4th, tumbling downhill with a ravine guarding the left, and the equally tempting 7th — holes that linger in memory long after the scorecard is signed. The 13th, deceptively modest at around 380 yards, delivers a sublime approach into an elevated, well-bunkered green that drops sharply toward a meandering stream below. Club selection here is not optional; it’s essential.

Beyond the design, Avalon’s sense of place is unmistakable. The course occupies nearly half of a 544-acre estate bordering the Black River Gorges National Park, where indigenous flora, forested ravines and flowing water remain integral to the landscape. Fairways rise and fall naturally with the land, creating a rhythm that feels organic rather than imposed. It has been aptly described as a golfing Garden of Eden.

That quality has not gone unnoticed. According to the latest rankings from Top 100 Golf Courses, Avalon is now ranked #2 in Mauritius, firmly cementing its status among the island’s elite — and confirming what discerning players have long suspected.

Yet Avalon is not solely about championship golf. The experience extends well beyond the final green. Thoughtfully spaced tee times preserve a sense of calm and exclusivity. The clubhouse, restaurant and lifestyle amenities encourage players and non-golfers alike to linger — to turn a round into a day, and a day into a ritual. Sustainability is woven into operations, earning Avalon GEO Certified® status and reinforcing its long-term stewardship of the land it occupies.

Perhaps this is what truly distinguishes Avalon: balance. It is challenging without being punishing, refined without being formal, dramatic without feeling contrived. A place where serious golfers find substance, and where the setting alone justifies the journey.

If you have played Avalon, you already understand. If you haven’t, the message is simple: this is Mauritius golf, elevated — literally and figuratively.

For further information or to arrange a visit, email Ben Hiddlestone, General Manager, Avalon Golf Estate.

Kurt Geiger and Emily Ratajkowski Present Holiday 2025: Your Invitation to Shine https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/kurt-geiger-and-emily-ratajkowski-present-holiday-2025-your-invitation-to-shine/ Tue, 09 Dec 2025 18:00:33 +0000 https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/kurt-geiger-and-emily-ratajkowski-present-holiday-2025-your-invitation-to-shine/ Let them eat cake. And drink champagne. And drip in jewels. This holiday season, Kurt Geiger channels the opulence of Marie Antoinette, reimagined as the ultimate party girl, unveiling its most joyful and dazzling collection yet — brought to life by global icon Emily Ratajkowski, who leads the festivities in style. Captured by photographer Laura Coulson, the campaign continues Emily’s journey on a decadent winter girls’ trip, embodying holiday hedonism at its most charming: overdressed, overjoyed, and unapologetically extra.

Girls just want to have fun — and this season, anything goes. Accessories are joyfully unserious. Handbags masquerade as desserts, including a two-tier pastel cake iced with crystals, alongside a champagne bottle party bag, cheekily labelled ‘Kurt’s Fizz’ — both unzip to stash party essentials. The beloved Kurt Geiger eagle gets a playful makeover too, reimagined into cute cross-body bags, collectable charms, and cartoonish, oversized slippers made for statement lounging. True to Kurt Geiger, London gets its own wink too: pigeons and Scotch eggs make for the wittiest bag charms.

New for this season, Kurt Geiger debuts ‘The Pimlico’ — a striking new bag silhouette with a sleek, gold-plated eagle emblem, available in luxurious, rich leathers, shimmering pastel sequins or oversized and embellished with playful pearls the size of snowballs. The Shoreditch bag is stretched in an East-West silhouette, dressed in bold prints and fabrications, while the iconic Kensington takes on main character energy — adorned in crystals or reinterpreted in a harlequin-quilted rainbow, refracting joy with every step.

Footwear is a sugar rush of textures and shapes. Fluffy snow boots are nestled with jewels like trees bedecked with baubles, while pink lace booties bring a dash of early Carrie Bradshaw charm. Fluffy slides, ribbon-wrapped super-platforms and crystal-strapped high sandals dial up the drama for dance floors and beyond. The best-selling Islington sneaker doubles as a party shoe, reimagined in silver leather fringing or tied up with gold ribbon bows. Meanwhile, the three-strap Octavia gladiator sandal is studded with oversized jewels for flat-out decadence. High glamour doesn’t always require a heel, after all.

To share the love, there is a pick’n’mix of gifts. A sophisticated, luxe black scarf twinkles with subtle strands of rainbow sparkles, while chunky gold dome rings and matching stud earrings nestled with emerald crystals make the perfect stocking fillers.

“At this time of year, I love to turn up the schmaltz…But I always keep it chic. For this campaign, we drew inspiration from classic feel-good holiday films, with a wink of kitsch. Emily Ratajkowski is the angel atop of our well-dressed tree: a vision of timeless glamour, paired with the firecracker wit of a contemporary party girl.” — Rebecca Farrar-Hockley, Chief Creative Officer of Kurt Geiger.

Kurt Geiger’s Holiday 2025 campaign launched on 31st October 2025. The collection is available both online and in stores globally.

Prices range from £49/$88/€78 to £329/$368/€328.

In the Ring at Tattersalls: Emma Blunt Looks at a Tradition Still in Motion https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/in-the-ring-at-tattersalls-emma-blunt-looks-at-a-tradition-still-in-motion/ Tue, 18 Nov 2025 09:17:14 +0000 https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/in-the-ring-at-tattersalls-emma-blunt-looks-at-a-tradition-still-in-motion/ It begins, as so many great British traditions do, with a toast.

Inside the timeless Jockey Club Rooms in Newmarket, champagne glasses catch the candlelight as conversation fills the air beneath portraits of racing’s greats. Along one wall, the names of members dating back to 1819 remind you that few institutions embody heritage quite like this one.

This is the eve of Tattersalls Book 1: the world’s most prestigious yearling sale. Founded in 1766, it remains Europe’s leading bloodstock auctioneer and the beating heart of the British racing industry. It’s where heritage, horsemanship, and ambition meet in an arena of precision and possibility — horses parading in the ring, handlers focused, buyers poised, and conversations turning to pedigrees, prices, and potential.

Over dinner, Nick Patton, Managing Director of Jockey Club Estates, speaks with quiet pride about the town that has defined the sport for centuries. He oversees the management of training facilities across Newmarket, Lambourn, and Epsom — the shared gallops and land that underpin Britain’s racing centres. “Nothing pleases me more than seeing the next generation of racehorse trainers find success,” he says — a sentiment that captures Tattersalls’ enduring relevance: a world steeped in history, yet alive with ambition.

The Jockey Club Rooms have long been the meeting point of the sport’s great minds — once a private coffee house where bets were struck and races began on the streets outside. Today, they stand as a reminder that Newmarket’s identity is inseparable from its racing roots. As glasses are raised, the room feels suspended in a shared pause — a moment of stillness before the sale, before hopes are tested in the ring.

Morning on the Gallops

At first light, Newmarket’s heath lies quiet under a pale sky. Trainer George Scott, who began his career in 2015 and recently celebrated his first Group 1 victory with Caballo De Mar in the Prix du Cadran at Paris Longchamp, starts his day before sunrise — horses warming up in the ring, stable lights cutting through the soft mist.

George walks the gallops with steady focus. He listens more than he speaks. “We’re listening to the breathing,” he says as two thoroughbreds stride past. “When they’re working together, you hear how they compete — how they recover.”

His training blends instinct with modern understanding. In his 85-horse yard, tradition sits comfortably alongside technology — heart-rate monitors, stride analysis, and data used not to replace intuition, but to deepen it. “It’s not about control,” he says. “It’s about connection.”

That connection extends to his people as much as his horses. George speaks of his team with quiet pride — a mix of youth and experience bound by the same early starts and deep affection for their animals. For him, training is as much about teaching as it is about winning. If those who pass through his yard leave understanding care, respect, and patience, then he considers it a success.

Sustainability, too, runs through his approach — and it’s something the wider racing industry is now addressing more seriously. Efficiency, welfare, and respect for the land are becoming part of the modern trainer’s mindset. “You have to adapt constantly,” he says, “to stay both humane and forward-looking.”

Standing on the gallops, the link between land and livelihood feels clear. Each stride seems part of the same long story — one that Tattersalls has carried forward for more than two centuries, from these fields to the sale ring.

The Bell Rings at Tattersalls

By mid-morning, we’re at Tattersalls. The crowd gathers, voices low with anticipation. At 10:55, the bell rings — the signal that Book 1 is about to begin. Outside, horses parade in the crisp light; inside, the ring fills with a focused quiet. Handlers are poised, buyers attentive, and within minutes, the first lot steps forward.

The auctioneer works with calm precision; bids are exchanged through the smallest of gestures — a nod, a glance. It’s a quiet theatre of high stakes, where fortunes can shift in seconds. It’s easy to forget how much risk sits behind each movement, how uncertain the business remains, no matter how much data or pedigree you bring to it.

George Scott calls Tattersalls “a marketplace for work, but also for people — a place with a certain magic to it.” That balance between commerce and community still defines the institution today.

Jason Singh, Tattersalls’ Marketing Director, explains how that heritage continues to evolve. “Our history gives us credibility,” he says, “but we also have to speak in new voices. We promote across traditional and digital platforms to reach different generations.”

Tattersalls has also embraced innovation with TattersallsOnline.com, allowing horses to be sold remotely — reducing transport, cost, and carbon footprint. “It’s more efficient and sustainable,” Singh notes, “but there will always be something irreplaceable about gathering in person.”

Beyond the sale ring, Tattersalls supports racing charities such as Retraining of Racehorses, ensuring that welfare remains central to its work. “We all have a role in protecting the sport’s future,” Jason adds. “That means looking after the horses long after the hammer falls.”

Internationally, Tattersalls remains a magnet for global buyers — a delicate balance, Jason admits. “There’s always a risk of a talent drain,” he says. “But many international buyers now choose to own and race in Britain — a huge vote of confidence in our industry. The best bloodstock is still being bred here in Britain and Ireland, and that’s something we’re proud of.”

That global pull — and the challenge of maintaining identity within it — mirrors the wider questions racing faces today. As demand grows overseas and costs rise at home, more voices within the industry are calling for racing to keep evolving, both in how it tells its stories and how it supports those within it. Heritage alone isn’t enough; connection, communication, and care are what will sustain it.

The People Driving Change

If Tattersalls represents legacy, its strength lies in the people who are reshaping it for the future. Among them is Emma Banks, one of the world’s leading music agents — and the owner of Lady Bowthorpe, one of British racing’s most beloved fillies.

Emma’s story bridges two creative worlds — music and racing — both built on instinct, trust, and the art of recognising potential. “In both industries, you’re backing instinct,” she says. “You can analyse all you like, but sometimes you just know.” She compares choosing a horse to signing an artist — spotting talent, nurturing it, and giving it the space to thrive.

Her entry into racing came not through legacy, but love. “I’ve always loved horses,” she says. “When I could finally get involved, I just thought — why not?” That curiosity led to Lady Bowthorpe — a mare who gave her a once-in-a-lifetime moment with her 2021 Nassau Stakes win and continues to do so through her foals. “She was the gift that keeps giving,” Emma says. “She gave me moments I never dreamed of, and now she’s giving again.”

That belief — in potential, in possibility — is what keeps her hooked. “We all buy a dream,” she says simply. “That’s what makes Tattersalls so special. You walk in, hoping your story might be the next one to unfold.”

Emma is clear-eyed about racing’s future. “The sport has to be brave enough to evolve,” she says. “It needs to tell its stories better, celebrate its people, and make newcomers feel welcome.” For her, Tattersalls embodies that shift — a world steeped in heritage but ready to open its doors wider. “Racing might look exclusive from the outside,” she says, “but once you step in, you realise how many good people want to share it.”

Her advice to newcomers is simple: ask questions, visit a yard, and get curious. “If you love animals and the theatre of it all, you’ll find your place.”

The Heartbeat of Heritage

Walking through the sales pavilion, it’s impossible not to feel the pull of history. The oak railings, the murmured bids, the flick of a catalogue page — all unchanged in essence for centuries. Yet what’s striking is how forward-thinking many here have become.

From Highclere Thoroughbred Racing, led by The Honourable Harry Herbert, to the newer syndicates making ownership more accessible, there’s a sense that the sport is opening up while remaining anchored in its roots.

Harry’s philosophy captures that balance perfectly. “Legacy in racing is about stewardship,” he says. “It’s ensuring the sport’s future by protecting its integrity, its welfare standards, and its connection to the land.”

Highclere’s model, where groups of owners share the thrill and cost of racehorse ownership, has helped democratise an elite world — and, crucially, build community. “It’s about sharing the experience,” Harry says. “From watching a yearling grow into a champion, to celebrating together at the track — it’s the people that make it.”

Sustainability, too, is a growing focus. “All of us in the sport have a responsibility to be as sustainable as possible,” Harry says. “It’s something the British Horseracing Association and the Jockey Club take seriously, but it’s also about individual accountability. We’re already an inclusive sport, but we must keep evolving to ensure it flourishes with the times.”

A Living Tradition

By evening, as the crowd thins and the ring quiets, the magic of Tattersalls lingers. Deals have been struck, dreams have shifted hands, and yet the sense of continuity feels unbroken.

Tattersalls is not just an auction house — it’s a living organism of heritage, innovation, and human connection. From the misty gallops at dawn to the quiet electricity of the sale ring, it captures the soul of British horseracing: a world built on instinct, respect, and evolution.

As I leave Newmarket, the image that stays with me is George Scott at sunrise — standing still, listening to the sound of horses breathing as the light breaks. In that moment, it’s clear: this world, for all its prestige and power, still beats to something beautifully simple — the partnership between people and horses that has carried it forward for centuries.

Kapten & Son: Luxury luggage to ensure you Travel in Style and Strength https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/https-kapten-son-com-en-about-us/ Wed, 01 Oct 2025 20:03:34 +0000 https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/https-kapten-son-com-en-about-us/ As frequent travellers who are constantly on the move for both business and pleasure, we understand the importance of high-quality luggage that can keep up with our lifestyle. Over the past few months, we’ve had the pleasure of using a great selection of travel products from the German brand Kapten & Son, and we can confidently say this brand delivers on all fronts. We’ve been on cruise ships, planes, trains, and coaches in the last three months, and this luggage has proven to be invaluable.

Stylish Design That Lasts

Kapten & Son is known for its effortlessly stylish designs, and the moment we laid eyes on their luggage, we were immediately smitten by the sleek, contemporary aesthetic. But this isn’t just about good looks; the efficiency of this travel range is just as impressive. The full-size suitcase has been with us on several trips, and despite being loaded to the brim, it has remained incredibly durable. The hard shell casing is not only strong enough to take on the rough handling of all forms of travel, but also retains its stunning finish — looking smart journey after journey.

Smooth Performance on the Move

One of the standout features is how smoothly the suitcases roll; four wheels make a huge difference. Whether we’re dashing through terminals or navigating cobbled European streets, the wheels glide effortlessly, making travel that much more comfortable. The ergonomic handle system is well designed, adjusting easily to suit different heights and allowing for a relaxed grip over long distances.

Another feature we love is the inside organisation system. Each case includes thoughtfully designed packing bags, making it easy to separate clothing, shoes, and accessories — a small detail that goes a long way in streamlining packing and unpacking. Kapten & Son has clearly taken into consideration the needs of all travellers.

Weekend Case & Backpacks

We’ve also been using the weekend suitcase, which is perfect for shorter trips. It’s lightweight and spacious enough for a few days’ worth of clothes, and slips easily into overhead compartments. This has quickly become our go-to for city breaks or press trips where we need to travel light but still look stylish.

Beyond the luggage, Kapten & Son’s backpack-style bags have been a real game-changer. We’ve tested several models, and each one is comfortable to wear even when fully packed, thanks to padded straps and back panels. These bags blend style and practicality perfectly — with compartments for laptops, water bottles, passports, and more, exactly what we need to stay organised while on the move.

A Brand Built for Discerning Travellers

What we love most about Kapten & Son is that their products are designed for all travellers who demand more from their luggage. Everything feels first-class, from the materials to the stitching, and you can feel the brand’s German excellence in every detail.

We can honestly say our travel experiences have been made smoother and more stylish thanks to Kapten & Son. If you’re looking for luggage that’s built to last, looks fantastic, and supports your every journey, we highly recommend this stunning, strong, and sophisticated brand.
