From the moment I arrived, everything felt professional, calm, and reassuring, which immediately put me at ease, although I was thinking more along the lines of a little filler and wrinkle relaxant, but was gently guided towards a more forward-thinking treatment!

What really stood out to me was how clearly the technical info of the treatment was explained. Dr Denning took the time to chat with me about how the laser works at a deeper level, targeting specific layers of the skin with various lasers to stimulate collagen production, reduce redness and refine the skin texture, while preserving the surrounding tissue. She explained how the wavelength selection and pulse duration are carefully calibrated to ensure maximum effect, which gave me real confidence that the treatment was both advanced and safe.

During the treatment itself, I appreciated how precise and controlled everything felt. The technology is impressive, and I could tell that great care was taken to ensure perfect coverage. Despite the sophistication of the process, the treatment was surprisingly comfortable, thanks to the cooling system and Dr Denning’s attentive approach.

Immediately following the treatment, my skin felt extremely hot and looked a little red, but within the hour had completely cooled down.  The explanation about the skin’s natural healing process, where lower levels within the skin involve the regeneration and gradual healing, really helped me understand what was happening beneath the surface. Over the following weeks, I saw a visible improvement in texture, tone, and overall radiance.

Overall, this was a great experience that combined amazing up-to-date technology with a genuinely personal touch. Dr Denning’s expertise and ability to communicate the science in layman’s terms made all the difference. I would absolutely recommend her clinic to anyone considering laser treatments.

To round off my appointment with Dr Denning, we agreed that a small amount of muscle relaxant would be useful around my eye area. A small amount was expertly placed around the brow to gently open up my eyes, as well as along the jawline to help relax the tight neck muscles.

I’ve had muscle relaxants to lift my brows several times over the past several years, but this is the first time the result has been so even and subtle. My brows were uniformly lifted in a way that looked completely natural, an outcome I was genuinely impressed by.

The treatment to my neck was equally successful, softening and making the ‘turkey neck’ far less noticeable. Overall, the results felt very much in keeping with a natural look.

Voco Marylebone: 4-Star Boutique Luxury Done Right https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/voco-marylebone-4-star-boutique-luxury-done-right/ Thu, 02 Apr 2026 18:13:45 +0000 https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/?p=110125 We recently had the pleasure of staying at Voco in Marylebone, and it was truly a wonderful experience from start to finish. From the moment we arrived, we felt warmly welcomed, with staff who were not only professional but genuinely friendly and attentive throughout our stay, even providing an umbrella, it was a dreary, drizzly evening, and a much-needed accessory!

The location is absolutely ideal, perfectly situated just a short stroll from Marylebone High Street, making it incredibly convenient whether you’re in London for business meetings or a full day of shopping. We were doing both and were thoroughly exhausted by the time we checked in! So, after our long, busy day exploring the city, running from A to B, it was such a relief to return to a calm, comfortable, and stylish space where we could fully unwind.

The room itself, while on the smaller side, was exceptionally well designed and thoughtfully equipped with everything we needed. Every detail had clearly been considered, from the comfortable bed and high-quality linens to the clever use of space and modern amenities. It felt cosy rather than cramped, and quickly became a relaxing retreat where we could recharge.

One of the highlights of our stay was the breakfast. It was absolutely fantastic, fresh, delicious, and with a great variety of options to suit all tastes. It set us up perfectly for the day ahead.

What really stood out to us, though, was how easy it was to relax here. The atmosphere throughout the hotel is calm and inviting, making it the perfect place to unwind after a hectic day. Whether you’re travelling for work or leisure, it strikes that rare balance between comfort, style, and practicality.

Overall, Voco Marylebone exceeded our expectations in every way. It’s a charming, well-located hotel with superb rooms, a fantastic breakfast, and a welcoming atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. We wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable and enjoyable stay in London.

Marylebone Skin & Medical Aesthetics in the heart of London https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/refined-radiant-skin-thanks-to-marylebone-skin-clinic/ Fri, 20 Mar 2026 19:48:09 +0000 https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/?p=109725 Marylebone Skin, founded by cosmetic doctor, Dr Catharine Denning, is setting a new benchmark in doctor-led aesthetic medicine with a practice built on clinical integrity, discretion, and a fully holistic approach to skin health, rejuvenation, and longevity.

March 2026, Marylebone, London – Dr Catharine Denning and the team at Marylebone Skin are redefining modern aesthetic medical care through a distinctly medical, patient-first approach that blends clinical expertise with a deep understanding of skin health, skin ageing, and regenerative medicine. Based on Marylebone High Street, London, the clinic is distinguished by its clinically led ethos, where every patient journey is grounded in thorough medical assessment, and aesthetic and skin treatments are delivered under the expertise, oversight, and recommendation of a qualified doctor.

Marylebone Skin has built a reputation for listening to patient needs and delivering refined, natural results through a holistic, full-face strategy that uses minimally invasive skin and facial enhancement procedures to restore a youthful glow. At the core of Dr Denning’s philosophy is the belief that meaningful, lasting rejuvenation comes from treating the whole face and the underlying skin biology, rather than chasing isolated concerns or quick fixes.

Medical aesthetic and skin treatments available include a full range of advanced cosmetic injectable treatments targeting lines and wrinkles, and volume loss with dermal fillers, alongside regenerative approaches with ICONA® H8 skin boosters and bioremodelling ingredients that stimulate natural rejuvenation of skin tissue, like ICONA® Pn polynucleotides and Sculptra®. Medical aesthetician delivered options include topical skin-focused treatments, like laser, medical microneedling, medi-facials, and professional skin peels. This is topped off with recommendations for medical-grade, prescription skincare regimens to maintain good skin health at home between clinic visits. The emphasis is on achieving natural, refined results that support the skin over time.

Treatment planning focuses on facial harmony, balance, and long-term skin health, and delivery is optimised in a considered and bespoke way, using treatment combinations and layered approaches, with every decision made in the context of the individual. Each patient receives a comprehensive, detailed medical consultation supported by advanced skin-scanning technology, forming the basis of a fully personalised treatment programme tailored to their individual needs and goals, which continues to evolve during the journey to better skin health.

Dr Catharine Denning explains, “My approach has always been to treat the whole face and the whole patient. By combining treatments in a thoughtful, personalised way, we can achieve results that are not only natural but sustainable, supporting skin health and confidence over the long term.”

Catharine develops long-lasting relationships with her patients, many of whom return regularly for ongoing care. Discretion and trust sit at the heart of the patient experience. She takes the time to understand each patient’s goals, lifestyle, and concerns. The clinic maintains the highest level of confidentiality in every interaction, from consultation through to treatment and follow-up, creating a calm, private environment where patients feel secure and understood.

A busy working woman herself who understands being time-poor, her practice is particularly attuned to the needs of busy female professionals who value efficiency, expertise, and discretion without compromise. Appointment times are structured with flexibility in mind, including late evening clinics held three times per week, making it possible to access high-level medical aesthetic care around demanding professional and personal schedules.

This commitment to accessibility, paired with consistently high clinical standards, has attracted a growing patient base to Dr Denning not only from across London but internationally, with clients regularly travelling from New York and Dubai to access her expertise. Despite its global reach, the practice remains boutique and highly personal, treating every patient as an individual and supporting them with a carefully managed, long-term treatment plan, alongside exceptional care from Catharine.

Dr Denning adds, “My priority is always to treat every patient with kindness, care, and the highest standard of medical safety. Aesthetic treatments should enhance confidence, never compromise well-being. At my clinics, we take a truly individual approach, where medical integrity and compassion go hand in hand.”

Marylebone Skin continues to lead the way in modern aesthetic medicine, offering a refined, medically grounded approach for patients seeking expert care tailored to their lifestyle and individual needs. Dr Denning is committed to delivering safe treatments and products backed by scientific evidence. By combining medical rigour with a holistic, tailored approach, Dr Catharine Denning and Marylebone Skin continue to set a new standard in aesthetic practice, one that places skin health and patient individuality firmly at the centre of care.

Mielo’s set menu offers an ultimate mezze selection as a starter and a fine range of mains including pan-roast aubergine stuffed with seasonal vegetables, grilled butterflied sea bass with white wine and lemon herbs, Mediterranean-style lamb shank, and creamy tarragon grilled chicken with asparagus.

The lunch menu offers delights such as squid ink linguine with prawns, grilled salmon, grilled chicken skewers, and more.

Fischers, Marylebone High Street

Adding a Germanic flavour to cap off this list, Fischers goes old-world Austria for diners hankering after a fine schnitzel or delicious apple strudel. The interior takes you back to Vienna at its finest, serving breakfast including Gröstls and Röstis, fresh pastries, grilled kippers with mustard butter, and a smoked salmon and cream cheese pretzel.

Dinner plates come laden with schnitzels and sausages, cured fish, salads, Tafelspitz (beef or veal broth), hearty goulash dishes, and much more. To round things off, there is the wonderful Austrian range of sweets, including Black Forest Gâteau and creamy hot chocolates.

As a slightly more accessible neighbour to Knightsbridge, Marylebone offers so many outstanding restaurants that this list barely scratches the surface — but any of these establishments will make for a memorable meal during your visit to London or while Christmas shopping on Regent’s Street or Oxford Street.

Emma Blunt Uncovers The Quiet Art Of Kaiseki At Roketsu https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/emma-blunt-uncovers-the-quiet-art-of-kaiseki-at-roketsu/ Wed, 30 Jul 2025 09:27:42 +0000 https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/emma-blunt-uncovers-the-quiet-art-of-kaiseki-at-roketsu/ There’s a reverent stillness that greets you at Roketsu. The unassuming façade gives nothing away, but stepping inside feels like passing through a portal. The light shifts. Voices soften. Shoes click gently against the Oribe-glazed tiles of the Roji (the entrance space), where tradition is not simply referenced but lived. It doesn’t feel hidden, exactly, but more like something purposefully placed just outside the pace of everyday London — as if waiting for you to arrive quietly, and on time.

The dining room, built entirely in Japan and reassembled piece by piece here in Marylebone, feels like a secret held in wood and stone. I took my place at the long hinoki counter — pale, citrus-scented, and smooth with centuries of grain — and time seemed to shift. What unfolded wasn’t performance, but something quieter: a ritual in motion.

It was as if I’d been invited into someone’s tea house; someone meticulous, thoughtful, and deeply proud of where they come from.

There’s no sense of urgency at Roketsu. No leaning into trends, no desire to impress through volume. Instead, every element is rooted in Kaiseki’s guiding principles: the art of seasonality, balance, and sensory harmony. The dishes and menu (which change monthly to ensure hyper-seasonality) honour the Japanese concept of Washoku, designated an Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO, and the rhythms of the three micro-seasons — Hashiri (early), Shun (peak), and Nagori (just past). That sensitivity to timing (both agricultural and emotional) pulses through every dish.

Each movement behind the counter is deliberate yet unhurried — a practice in presence. There are just ten seats here, each offering an intimate vantage point as dishes are passed directly across the wood. The chefs work in near silence, their focus unbroken as they slice, steam, and plate with the calm precision of calligraphy. It’s mesmerising, almost meditative. Downstairs, a few additional tables offer a more relaxed ‘sitting room’ setting, but there’s something sacred about the counter and the way it hushes the mind and brings you into stillness, one course at a time.

So let’s eat at Roketsu together

The multi-course lunch menu began with the Sakizuke — a delicate serving of yam jelly dressed with wasabi-an sauce and clams. It was a dish that could easily be mistaken for simple in its elegance and restraint, but with one bite, it revealed layers of complexity. The jelly, cool and translucent, gave way to the deep saline sweetness of the clams, and the wasabi-an (all warmth and precision) lingered just long enough to awaken, not overwhelm. This was a start that asked me to pay attention.

The Gozen course arrived next: a tray so perfectly composed it felt like a season laid out before me. At its heart were sashimi: slender slices of Dover sole and tuna, served with the most decadent egg-yolk soy sauce — so rich and nuanced I found myself licking the bowl clean. But it was the Hassun (the seasonal appetisers) that truly took my breath away. A miniature landscape of intricacy and balance, wrapped gently in a folded bamboo leaf, was a delicate sushi roll; cool, compact, and pristine. In front: fried red mullet seasoned with vinegar and chilli, a soft prawn ‘cake’ crowned with poppy seeds, hake glazed with sweet soy, tender green vegetables simmered in dashi and finished with white sesame, and home-smoked salmon with pickled daikon and Japanese burdock, topped with a special miso. The textures and flavours danced between one another — earthy, bright, rich, and clean — and the plating was so precise, so impossibly beautiful, that I hesitated before picking up my chopsticks. But I’m glad I did.

There are no rules here. The Hassun is meant to be eaten at your own pace, in whichever order you choose. It’s a rare moment of freedom in fine dining, guided not by formality but by flavour and authenticity. Seasonality, of course, underpins everything: most ingredients are sourced locally from across the UK, chosen at their exact moment of Shun — their seasonal prime. And yet, in staying true to Kaiseki’s roots, certain fish are sourced directly from Japan, selected not for extravagance but for the specific flavour profiles that simply don’t exist elsewhere. Roketsu doesn’t pretend that importing is perfect — it’s a conscious trade-off. But transparency matters more than absolutes here, and that honesty runs through the food as clearly as the dashi itself.

The Owan, a green tea-steamed whitefish served in an umami-rich broth, came in a lacquered bowl with a lid — an act of preservation and reveal. I removed the top slowly, and the steam that rose felt like the beginning of a quiet ceremony. Floating within was a poetic harmony of seasonal accents — slivers of daikon, chard, mizuna, and the subtle crunch of buckwheat seeds. It was light, but deeply nourishing — a dish that held silence as much as it held flavour. The broth, made from a dashi base, is the invisible hand of Kaiseki. You don’t see its intricacy, but you taste its depth — a reminder that water, not earth or fire, is the foundation of this cuisine.

Throughout the meal, perfectly paired sake evolved alongside the food, never dominating, always in conversation. There was a deep respect for balance here between texture, temperature, and taste. This wasn’t about building to a crescendo. It was about maintaining harmony.

Dessert arrived with the same quiet elegance as everything before it: Alphonso mango pudding with lemon ice cream and passion fruit. It was light, but vibrant — tropical sweetness cut by the citrus clarity of the ice cream, with passion fruit adding just the right sharpness. After such a thoughtful progression of savoury courses, this final note was gently exuberant — not loud, but undeniably joyful.

What struck me most wasn’t just the food, or even the extraordinary precision of its execution. It was the sense of care in sourcing, in crafting, in serving. Roketsu doesn’t hang banners about sustainability, but it is deeply embedded in its practice. From sourcing through responsible fisheries to using seasonal, low-impact produce and celebrating handcrafted materials, the restaurant embodies a sustainable ethos without ever having to name it. Even the architecture, built by Kyoto-based Nakamura Sotoji Komuten and assembled by craftsmen on site, speaks in whispers to a philosophy that values longevity, precision, and care over speed or spectacle. It’s not an add-on. It’s simply the way things are done.

And in the end?

There is a wordless wisdom to this place — the kind that doesn’t try to translate itself, but trusts you’ll listen. And you do. Because when everything slows down, when the noise falls away, and when the food is this good, silence is not absence. It’s intention.

Roketsu isn’t trying to be like anywhere else in London. Instead, it offers something increasingly rare: the chance to experience authenticity not as nostalgia, but as living culture. There’s no need to embellish what’s already perfect in its simplicity. And that, in today’s world, is perhaps the greatest luxury of all.

Luxuria Lifestyle Interviews Dr Joney de Souza, Clinic Owner https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/luxuria-lifestyle-interviews-dr-joney-de-souza-clinic-owner/ Wed, 18 Jun 2025 14:05:09 +0000 https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/luxuria-lifestyle-interviews-dr-joney-de-souza-clinic-owner/ Tucked away in the quietly luxurious streets of Marylebone lies a clinic that has earned a devoted following not through loud marketing or passing trends, but through something far more enduring: trust. At the heart of it is Dr Joney de Souza — a world-renowned aesthetic doctor whose meticulous eye, global experience, and deeply personal approach have made his name synonymous with sophisticated, understated results. In this exclusive Q&A, Dr Joney shares the philosophy behind his sought-after clinic, his passion for regenerative treatments, and why beauty should always begin with a conversation.

1. Dr Joney, your clinic has become a real hidden gem in Marylebone. What drew you to this part of London, and how does the space reflect your approach to beauty and wellbeing?

Marylebone has always felt like a special pocket of London — refined, calm, and quietly luxurious. I was drawn to its charm and character. I wanted the clinic to feel like an extension of that energy: a discreet, elegant space where clients could feel safe, cared for, and never rushed. It’s about creating an environment that reflects the results we aim for — subtle, sophisticated, and deeply personal.

2. You’ve trained all over the world and worked with some of the best in the industry. How have those experiences shaped the way you treat your clients today?

Travel and training have been invaluable. Each culture approaches aesthetics a little differently, and learning from that global perspective has helped me refine a holistic, balanced approach. Ultimately, the best results come when you combine technical skill with an intuitive sense of harmony — and always listen deeply to your client.

3. There’s a quiet confidence to the clinic; it doesn’t shout about itself, yet clients rave about it. What do you think makes people fall in love with the experience you offer?

I think people appreciate sincerity. We don’t try to be flashy — we focus on providing an exceptional experience, one that’s rooted in trust, precision, and real results. Our clients feel seen and understood, and they know we’ll always give honest advice, not just what’s trending or profitable.

4. You’re known for staying ahead of the curve when it comes to innovation in aesthetics. Are there any new treatments or technologies you’re excited about bringing into the clinic soon?

Absolutely. I’m particularly excited about regenerative treatments — especially those involving exosomes and advanced PRF protocols. These harness the body’s healing power and are shifting the conversation from simply “treating” ageing to proactively “supporting” the skin long-term. It’s a beautiful evolution in aesthetics.

5. Your results are often described as ‘enhanced, but never obvious’. How do you guide clients to choose treatments that still feel true to who they are?

I always begin with a conversation — understanding what’s behind the client’s goals. It’s not just about lines or volume loss; it’s about how they want to feel when they look in the mirror. From there, we build a plan that respects their individuality. The best compliment is when someone says, “You look amazing — but I can’t quite put my finger on why.”

6. Let’s talk about your eye for detail. People say you notice things others don’t. Is that something that’s always come naturally to you, or something you’ve honed over time?

I think it’s both. I’ve always been drawn to symmetry, proportion, and the little nuances that make someone unique. But over the years, I’ve trained my eye to see how even the smallest tweak can shift the entire balance of a face. It’s about respecting the natural anatomy while enhancing what’s already there.

7. There’s always a lot of buzz about new treatments, but if you could shine a light on one that really deserves more attention, what would it be?

Skin boosters. They don’t get nearly enough credit! Treatments like Profhilo and Polynucleotides deliver deep hydration and tissue quality improvement, which makes every other aesthetic treatment work better. It’s like prepping the canvas before painting — often overlooked, but essential.

8. Many of your clients come to you not just for a one-off appointment, but as part of an ongoing journey. What does that relationship typically look like over time?

It evolves. We might start with one concern, but as trust builds, it becomes a partnership. We map out a long-term approach to skin health and facial harmony — something sustainable and empowering. Over time, I get to know not just their face, but also what makes them feel most confident, and that makes the work even more meaningful.

9. From subtle skin tweaks to more transformative work, how do you help people make choices that feel empowering rather than overwhelming?

Education is key. I take time to explain every option and its impact — not just on their appearance today, but on their long-term aesthetic goals. When clients understand the ‘why’ behind a recommendation, it becomes less about fixing something and more about investing in themselves.

10. The clinic feels more like a retreat than a traditional medical space. Was that an intentional part of your vision from the start?

Very much so. I wanted people to feel at ease the moment they walked through the door — to breathe, to slow down, and to feel they’re in safe hands. Aesthetics should never feel clinical or intimidating. We’ve created a sanctuary where beauty, science, and wellbeing coexist.

11. With so many clinics popping up in London, what’s the one thing you believe truly sets yours apart?

Consistency and integrity. Every treatment is performed or directly overseen by me, and I never recommend anything I wouldn’t choose for myself or a loved one. That personal, hands-on approach is becoming rare — but it’s what builds real trust, and real results.

12. And finally, if someone’s been quietly thinking about booking something for a while, what would you say to help them take that first step through the door?

Start with a conversation. You don’t need to commit to anything — just come in, share your thoughts, and let’s explore what’s possible together. The first step is often the hardest, but it’s also the most empowering. We’re here to support you every step of the way.

The Churchill Bar & Terrace Launches Outdoor Space and Cocktail Menu https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/the-churchill-bar-terrace-launches-outdoor-space-and-cocktail-menu/ Mon, 19 May 2025 09:47:49 +0000 https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/the-churchill-bar-terrace-launches-outdoor-space-and-cocktail-menu/ The Marylebone hotspot is transforming its al fresco area into a cacao-inspired haven with a signature cocktail menu to match, tapping into the tasty trend for the summer months.

This summer, The Churchill Bar and Terrace welcomes guests to step into the lush heart of the Amazon with its Cacao Verde-themed terrace, complete with a delicious new cocktail menu inspired by the cacao tree. The outdoor space of the bar will be transformed into a vibrant, verdant oasis that draws on the rich natural beauty of the rainforest, allowing guests to escape the hustle and bustle of the city for an Amazon rainforest-like retreat.

Launching on Monday, 5th of May 2025, The Churchill’s Cacao Verde Terrace will transport guests to a nature-filled escape in the heart of Marylebone. Diners will be surrounded by a palette of fresh and calming greens that mirror the jungle canopy and undergrowth layers, feeling immediately relaxed and refreshed, especially during the hotter summer days. The space will also feature on-brand cushions and light summer blankets scattered throughout, ensuring guests’ ultimate comfort. The terrace will be filled with dense greenery and tropical plants, infusing the space with the fresh scent of nature, softened by the earthy notes of cacao used within the bar’s new UNITY by Cacao cocktail menu.

Cacao Verde is a sensory extension of The Churchill Bar and Terrace’s UNITY by Cacao menu, launching at the same time as the terrace’s opening. The third chapter in the venue’s UNITY series — which celebrates the cultural richness of the bar team — UNITY by Cacao spotlights one of the world’s most storied and symbolic ingredients: the cacao plant. Celebrating the impressive versatility of the plant, The Churchill Bar and Terrace has created a signature menu of 12 innovative cocktails, each one inspired by one of the world’s leading cacao-producing nations. Highlights include:

• Brazil – made up of 1800 Cristalino Añejo Tequila, Dark Chocolate, Nochello, Horchata, Cointreau Noir and Double Cream
• Ivory Coast – containing Desi Daru Original Vodka, Chocolate Wine, Pedro Ximenez Nectar Sherry, Umeshu, Fernet Branca and Kola Bitters
• Nigeria – made up of cacao husk-infused Roku Gin, Peychaud’s Bitters, Angostura Cacao Bitters and Zobo Soda
• Thailand – made up of Moringa and Kaffir Lime Leaf Infused Haku Vodka, Fennel, Bitter Bianco, Green Chartreuse and Lemon
• Tanzania – containing Dalmore 12 yrs, Cacao, Passion Fruit, Punt & Mes, Cranberry Bitters and Umami Bitters
• Indonesia – containing Sake Akashi-Tai Junmai Daiginjo Genshu, London Dry Gin, Lillet and Pears

Each creation celebrates cacao in all its diverse forms, from fermented pulp to raw nibs to rich chocolate and aromatic husks.

Developing the serves in the cutting-edge Churchill Bar Laboratory, the team was able to explore innovative uses of cacao textures and techniques, incorporating perfumes, house-made tonics, garnishes, macerations and infusions to unlock surprising depths of flavour. Equipment such as centrifuges, infusers, and ultrasonic homogenisers have been employed to extract the purest essence of cacao and layer it into guests’ drinks with the ultimate precision.

The Churchill Bar and Terrace is open every day from 5 pm – 12 am, and until 1 am Thursday to Saturday. Bookings can be made here.

Bellazul: Sam Mead Experiences Marylebone’s Local Mediterranean Experience https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/bellazul-sam-mead-experiences-marylebones-local-mediterranean-experience/ Fri, 09 May 2025 10:06:56 +0000 https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/bellazul-sam-mead-experiences-marylebones-local-mediterranean-experience/ Nestled amongst the refined streets of Marylebone, Bellazul quietly announces itself, not with grand signage or flashy façades, but with the understated confidence of a place that knows exactly what it is. The approach to the restaurant tells you everything you need to know: a pathway lined with independent shops, each with its own story, each built on passion. Bellazul is no different. It is, in every way, a reflection of the passion of its owners and team for curating food and drink experiences that are both intimate and elevated.

From the moment you step inside, it’s clear this is not your typical Mediterranean-inspired restaurant. There’s a sense of warmth and familiarity, yes, but also an air of thoughtfulness, of deliberate curation, where every element, from the cocktail list to the ceramics, has been chosen with care. The soft palette of sea blues, the natural light pouring in through the arched windows, and the handpicked details that echo coastal towns of southern Europe, it’s all designed to transport you. Bellazul is an escape, a serene oasis carved out in the heart of London.

Despite the carefully curated cocktail menu, nothing initially jumped out to me. But this, it turns out, was a blessing in disguise. The team’s combined hospitality experience meant I could describe a feeling, a craving, and they would respond with a perfectly tailored creation. A sweet, refreshing palate cleanser? Out came a sparkling vodka and strawberry-infused cocktail—light, fragrant and cleansing. Something creamy and smooth? A twist on the espresso martini, where liqueurs took centre stage over espresso. Even when I admitted my dislike for tequila, the bartender’s confidence led to a pineapple-based concoction that completely masked the spirit’s typical harshness. The ability to balance and disguise flavours so deftly speaks to true cocktail mastery. Disguising tequila’s punch with sweetness and acidity, the bartender delivered a drink that was both sharp and smooth, sweet and complex—an elegant balancing act.

This same creativity and passion extended seamlessly into the kitchen. Before we’d even seen our selected starters, the chef sent out a small dish “to try something different.” A medley of Mediterranean vegetables encircling a pair of perfectly cooked King Oyster mushrooms, the entire plate crowned with a sticky and sweet chilli relish. Mushrooms, I’ll admit, aren’t typically something I gravitate towards, but here, their texture was perfectly judged, meaty yet tender, and the relish provided a sweet, spicy accent that brought everything together. A spontaneous creation, and one of the standout bites of the night.

Following the recommendations of the Operations Director, we opted for the tuna tartare and burrata as our starters. Both were exquisite in their own right, but it was the layering of flavour and texture that made them memorable. The tuna, fresh and light, was nestled on a creamy avocado base that added richness and depth, while the burrata—already creamy and delicate—was elevated with a drizzle of balsamic and a touch of chilli glaze. These weren’t just starters; they were stories, recommendations born out of a deep understanding of how each ingredient can be experienced at its best.

Accompanying our starters came a bowl of warm, freshly baked bread—a detail many restaurants treat as an afterthought, but not here. It’s these quiet, simple moments that speak volumes about a restaurant’s commitment to its craft. Even more telling was the exchange between the chef and the restaurant’s General Manager, who found themselves in a passionate debate about whether or not the bread should be salted. The chef, defending the no-salt tradition of his Tuscan roots, and the General Manager, equally fervent in upholding the Calabrian custom of using salt to enhance flavour. It was a cultural duel that encapsulated what Bellazul does best: blending the rich, diverse traditions of the Mediterranean into a single, seamless experience.

For mains, we opted for the lobster spaghetti and the beef fillet. Let’s start with the beef. No excessive fat, no over-seasoning—just pure, expertly cooked meat, enriched by a silky, aromatic jus that complemented every bite. Without exaggeration, this was one of the best steaks I have ever eaten. The spaghetti was equally delightful: light, yet rich in flavour, with the freshness of the sea captured in every bite.

And then came the grand finale, the chocolate fondant. Made freshly on-site, just as every dish at Bellazul is—from the Baba Ganoush to the breads, from the pasta to the tzatziki, it was a masterclass in indulgence. The exterior gave way to a rich, molten centre that was sweet, warm, and satisfyingly deep in cocoa flavour. Paired with vanilla gelato, it was the perfect close to a meal that managed to be both comforting and exciting.

Bellazul’s story is a personal one. It took over the former site of Il Baretto just over a year ago, and in that short time, has left a significant mark—not just on Marylebone locals, but on visitors from across London and beyond. The restaurant’s concept was born from a conversation between the owner’s family, each member contributing their vision of what the perfect dining space should be. That family influence runs deep. From the layout to the name, Bellazul, a marriage of Bella (beautiful) and Azul (blue)—everything reflects a shared vision of what Mediterranean dining means: warmth, flavour, beauty, and most of all, connection.

It’s a concept that’s thriving in London. Mediterranean cuisine has become one of the most popular culinary styles in the capital, with its emphasis on fresh ingredients, variety, and shared eating. Bellazul taps into that cultural wave by celebrating the diversity within Mediterranean cuisine itself: from the tagines of Morocco to the Italian cicchetti (Venetian-style tapas) to the flatbreads of Turkey. The tapas-style sharing approach encourages communal dining, conversation, and exploration—a reflection not just of how people eat in the Med, but how they live.

Even the wine list tells the story. You won’t find bottles from Chile or Australia here. Instead, the focus is on Mediterranean vineyards—Spain, France, and Italy, curated to pair perfectly with the cuisine and to reflect the regional authenticity at the core of Bellazul’s identity. And when it comes to fish, the ethos is the same: the menu only features species native to Mediterranean waters, sourced directly from the region whenever possible. This commitment extends beyond wine and seafood—every ingredient, from the olive oil to the herbs, is chosen to reflect the landscape and traditions of the Mediterranean.

The restaurant design, too, tells a story. The calming blues, the natural light, the custom-designed plates—it all works in harmony to create a space that feels open, fresh, and refined. The General Manager, alongside the owner and his family, was involved in every detail leading up to the launch. From choosing the décor, designing the plates, and finalising the menu, they left nothing to chance. The result is a space that feels cohesive, intentional, and utterly welcoming.

Bellazul isn’t content to be just a dinner destination. Already, the team has hosted live music brunches, pairing Cicchetti and cocktails with curated DJ sets, and there are plans for more: summer pizza parties and evenings focused on promoting their move into lighter dishes for the summer months. These aren’t gimmicks—they’re extensions of the same ethos that defines everything else at Bellazul: thoughtful, community-focused, and always rooted in the Mediterranean.

At the heart of Bellazul’s success is its people. It’s a place where the team remembers your name, where the reservation process feels like calling a friend. Hospitality isn’t just service here, it’s the mission. Yes, the food is outstanding. Yes, the menu is inventive, reflective, and refined. But it’s the human element, the genuine warmth, that lingers long after the final course is cleared.

In a city full of restaurants vying for attention, Bellazul doesn’t shout. It speaks softly, confidently. It invites you in, encourages you to share, to laugh, to indulge, to relax. It’s not a pit stop. It’s a pause. A place to escape, to feel like you’ve stepped onto a sunlit terrace in Sicily or a seaside café in Santorini—without ever leaving W1.

Bellazul is more than a meal. It’s an experience—a reflection of family, culture, tradition, and modern creativity all under one beautifully blue roof.

Luxuria Lifestyle’s Sam Mead reviews The Landmark’s The Winter Garden https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/luxuria-lifestyles-sam-mead-reviews-landmarks-the-winter-garden/ Wed, 19 Mar 2025 19:03:46 +0000 https://www.luxurialifestyle.com/luxuria-lifestyles-sam-mead-reviews-landmarks-the-winter-garden/ “Wow! Look, look!” –my daughter’s excitement as we entered The Winter Garden Restaurant at The Landmark perfectly captured the sense of awe and delight that defined the entire experience. From the moment we stepped into this stunning, light-filled atrium, we were transported to a world where refined luxury meets comforting familiarity, a rare balance that The Winter Garden Restaurant achieves with seemingly minimal effort.

First Impressions and Setting

Nestled within the heart of the five-star hotel The Landmark London, The Winter Garden Restaurant is a breathtaking sight to behold. The restaurant is situated in the hotel’s grand central atrium, which is crowned by a vast glass roof that floods the space with natural light. Towering palm trees and cascading greenery epitomise the ‘winter garden’ experience—one couldn’t help but feel they are entering into a hidden oasis. The thoughtful combination of natural elements and refined decor creates a peaceful yet sophisticated ambience—despite its impressive scale, the setting retained a sense of intimacy, striking that rare balance between grandeur and comfort.

The interplay of sunlight filtering through the glass roof and the lush greenery created the feeling of stepping into a tranquil Mediterranean retreat. Despite the spaciousness of the room, the clever layout of tables and the gentle hum of conversation made the atmosphere feel intimate rather than cavernous. This balance between openness and warmth makes The Winter Garden Restaurant an ideal setting for any occasion—be it a romantic date, a business lunch, or, as in our case, a relaxed family meal.

Warm Welcome and Thoughtful Service

The exceptional service at The Winter Garden Restaurant was apparent from the moment we arrived. A high chair had already been set up at our table, a subtle but significant indication of the staff’s attentiveness. Without needing to ask, a friendly waitress promptly provided a colouring set for my daughter, providing a welcome distraction and allowing us a moment to enjoy our cold, crisp champagne. This level of anticipation and care demonstrated that The Winter Garden Restaurant is not just welcoming to families—it actively ensures that even the youngest diners feel at ease.

Before our starters arrived, we were presented with a selection of warm bread served with two rich, spreadable butters—a simple yet indulgent touch. The bread was perfectly baked, with a crisp crust and fluffy interior, while the butter (one salted, one infused with fennel) melted effortlessly into the bread. It was a small but delightful prelude to what was to come, setting the tone for a meal defined by thoughtful details and refined simplicity.

The Menu and Dining Experience

At £47 per person for a three-course set lunch, The Winter Garden Restaurant offers remarkable value considering the quality of both the food and the setting. New Head Chef, Brian Hennessy, formerly Sous Chef at the Michelin-starred Ritz London, brings a refined modern European approach to the kitchen, introducing a menu that is a carefully curated reflection of British seasonal produce, and demonstrating both creativity and restraint—each dish thoughtfully balanced without overcomplication. It was immediately clear that the kitchen’s approach is one of quiet confidence rather than showy complexity. Importantly, the menu includes numerous vegan options, ensuring that all guests, regardless of dietary preference, feel equally catered for.

Each dish was beautifully presented, seamlessly weaving the ‘winter garden’ theme throughout the menu. Delicate leaves, edible flowers and fresh seasonal produce were integral to the entire meal. The crisp salted cod croquette as a starter paired beautifully with the richness of the poached egg, while the chive butter sauce added a smooth, creamy depth. The char-grilled baby chicken, accompanied by perfectly in-season purple-sprouting broccoli, was tender and juicy, with a smoky depth from the grill and just the right level of heat offered by the accompanying nduja sauce.

However, the highlight of the meal, without a doubt, was the slow-cooked short rib of beef—a dish that embodied everything you’d hope for from a luxury dining experience. The beef was cooked to perfection, falling apart at the mere suggestion of a fork. Its rich, savoury flavour was elevated by the creamy and understated Parmesan polenta, which provided a velvety contrast to the robust meat. Accompanying roasted root vegetables offered a touch of earthy sweetness, complementing the depth of the beef without overshadowing it. This was a dish that demonstrated remarkable restraint and balance— each element enhancing the other without competing for attention.

To finish, the Valrhona Chocolate Hazelnut Mousse with vanilla ice cream provided a rich and indulgent finale to an already luxurious meal. The tartness of the raspberry shell encasement added just the right amount of acidity to offset the creamy sweetness of the mousse. The vanilla ice cream provided a contrasting note of sweetness, balancing the richness of the chocolate and the sharpness of the raspberry.

Throughout the meal, the service was seamless but unobtrusive. Our waitress anticipated our needs without ever interrupting the natural flow of conversation—a rare and valuable skill. Despite the elegant surroundings, there was no hint of stiffness or formality; the atmosphere remained relaxed and welcoming.

An Experience for All Occasions

What makes The Winter Garden Restaurant particularly special is its ability to cater to such a diverse range of guests without losing its sense of identity. Around us were couples enjoying quiet conversations, business colleagues engaged in working lunches, and multigenerational families celebrating special occasions. Yet despite the range of diners, the atmosphere remained effortlessly relaxed and welcoming.

For families, The Winter Garden Restaurant is particularly well-suited. While some high-end restaurants can feel intimidating or unaccommodating to young children, The Winter Garden Restaurant team struck the perfect tone—kind and attentive without a trace of condescension. My daughter was treated with the same level of care and respect as any other guest, which made the experience feel all the more special.

Final Thoughts

Dining at The Winter Garden Restaurant at The Landmark is more than just a meal—it’s an experience. The stunning setting, thoughtful service, and exceptional food come together to create a sense of effortless luxury. It’s rare to find a restaurant that manages to balance refinement with ease, but The Winter Garden Restaurant achieves precisely that.

It’s rare to find such remarkable value for an experience of this calibre—especially in London. The quality of the ingredients, the precision of the cooking, and the level of attention by the staff combine to make The Winter Garden Restaurant a truly special destination for any occasion.

The Perfect Treatment: Balayage and Root Tint

For this visit, I decided to step out of my comfort zone and try something new. The root tint was the cherry on top, expertly matched to my natural shade to provide full coverage (greys be gone!) and a fresh, polished look. The care and precision with which Lani worked were evident in every strand, and I couldn’t have been happier with the results. My hair felt healthier, looked shinier, and had a beautiful depth of colour that I hadn’t experienced before. It’s safe to say that my first experience of balayage was a huge success, and I left the salon feeling absolutely thrilled with my new look.

One of the standout features of Daniel Galvin Marylebone is the attention to detail that extends beyond just hair. The salon offers a delightful selection of drinks and a lunch menu that is nothing short of delectable. Whether you’re in the mood for a refreshing herbal tea, a perfectly brewed coffee, or something a little more indulgent like a glass of champagne, the options are as luxurious as the salon itself.

The lunch menu offers a variety of light and tasty options, allowing you to indulge in a delicious meal while being pampered. It’s these thoughtful touches that truly elevate the salon experience, making a visit to Daniel Galvin feel like a special treat from start to finish. I particularly enjoyed sipping on a cool, crisp glass of wine while taking in the surroundings—a little moment of bliss that added to the overall indulgence of the day.

This winter, Home House members’ club celebrates its 25th anniversary and over 250 years of extraordinary heritage.

A shrine to hedonism in the centre of London, Home House was originally commissioned by Lady Home as a sophisticated palace designed purely for enjoyment to entertain London’s high society of the 18th century. Famous at the time, Lady Home earned the nickname “Queen of Hell” for her irascible behaviour and lavish parties. Designed in 1773 by leading architects James Wyatt and Robert Adam, the walls that were home to many famous personalities throughout the years still host a collection of colourful characters and individuals today.

The 23 bedrooms and suites at Home House, named after the house’s intriguing guests, including Earl (Charles) Grey and Anthony Blunt, are luxuriously spacious and retain their 18th-century style of capaciousness. Each room enjoys an alluring anecdote. The deep red marble in Lady Islington’s bathroom on the second floor of the House comes from the same stone that was used in the star inlay on the floor in the centre of the dome in St. Paul’s Cathedral, London. The bath found in the Duke of Atholl’s suite on the third floor was made for His Highness Say Aji Rao III, Maharajah Gaekwad of Baroda (1863-1939).

During the time of their stay, bedroom guests will have access to the club’s exceptional range of facilities including restaurants, bars, an exclusive nightclub (The Vaults) which can be hired for private events, the garden, a cigar lounge, a boardroom, a gym, as well as a thriving calendar of exclusive members’ events.

Members’ rates start from £225 and non-members rates from £275 per night for a Club Room. Reservations can be made via email reservations@homehouse.co.uk.

Home House London Dry Gin

It’s an exceptionally exciting time for the club, as Home House now has its very own London Dry Gin. Inspired by the Countess of Home’s favourite drink, the club has partnered with award-winning luxury gin distillery Oro, based in Lockerbie, Scotland, to create a unique spirit that captures the extraordinary heritage and epicurean essence of Home House. The gin has already been awarded a Master medal and a gold medal at The Global Spirits Masters, a gold medal in the European Spirits Challenge, a silver medal at the World Gin Awards and a bronze at the IWSC Awards.

Stories of Lady Home’s international travels and adventures inspire the Home House London Dry Gin, taking botanicals from around the globe that are rather unique in gin production. Home House’s General Manager Giuseppe De Wilde and his team worked very closely with Oro’s head distiller Ray Clynick, creating experimental flavour profiles in their lab for tastings, carefully refining and re-designing the spirit until reaching the desired flavour profile.

During its exclusive launch phase, the Home House London Dry Gin is available for purchase by members only via the Home House website and via the club’s front desk, priced at £42.50.
